After years of disrespect at the hands of the Mayans, Our lands have been settled, our explorations have been obstructed and our emissaries have been ignored. The Mayan people have forced us to assert our rights by force of arms. The perfidious Shield Pacal will now attempt to place the blame on us. It is true that we have drawn first blood but it is he himself that has created the insult that demands blood.
Uaxactun was a new city. Its inhabitants knew they were settling in lands claimed by the 5 Nations. It was the latest of a string of insults that the Mayans had contemptuously asked the Haudenosaunee to swallow. But lately they had begun to worry that the 5 Nations did not have an appetite as large as the servings that they were prepared to serve them. (The point is they were nervous so now they traveled with a large army.) The Mayan soldiers sheathed themselves in pointy metal to ward off the powerful and hostile spirits of these distant lands, but the wide open plains scorned the tiny swords and spears of the invaders.
These lands belonged to the Haudenosaunee and their braves knew how to turn the openness against the interlopers. Moving swiftly on horseback they could unexpectedly appear where they were not expected to appear and fell their opponents with arrows, the whole time staying beyond the reach of swords, which have much shorter range. They swept through Uaxactun like a dangerous and unfriendly storm that appears suddenly (where no storm of any type is expected to appear, slowly or otherwise) and leaves all the people dead and the buildings destroyed. (Also the storm I’m talking about is impervious to swords and spears.)
