Sorry - the thread has it now.

Once again - welcome. The only rule is what can't start planning the defeat of the infidels until we meet in game.

And yes - Sir Ralph is the admin for this game. He set it up, and created a map based on our input - after some haggling.

It is good to get it going again. The real problem (other than con leaving) is that the other team are a bunch of slackers.

...says the team that just delayed the save for two days! It made its way through half of us in less only a few hours, and mark my words we'll be quicker than you lot just were....

I knew Europeans and Americans were paid more to do less work, but I didn't know that sheer slothfulness extended to all aspects of your lives!

        ROFL ... yeh, right ...

I believe the only rule is that we cannot discuss things that require knowledge of this specific game's details until we meet in game. IE we discussed beforehand research priorities etc. without knowing what our start was, and as such we could theoretically still discuss things that we could have discussed pre-game. (Of course we generally avoid doing so as it's hard to be perfect here.)

Hmmm, he denied any involvement with this game when I emailed him. Actually, I think in the startup thread he said something about the autosave not working so maybe the first player set the password and he forgot about it? (The name seems to have changed too, so that doesn't help... :-) Anyway, I was able to crack my way into the save and play the turn.

One more confirmation about the setup- this is supposed to be on a pangaea and the two teams are grouped together respectively, right?

I'm working with OzzyKp right now on DOTA. If no admin password was set, what is the procedure for resetting a players password.

Is that the same way in which you cracked your way int o the game???

And if one was set, but the pesron has long since forgotten it, what then? Your process again?

Would be good to have the standard procedures in the info thread. (hey - who is suppose to keep that up to date anyway. )

I don't think we want to standardize the procedure to bypass passwords...

Sorry, that was a misleading emoticon there- I was able to play con's turn because it looks like he didn't set a password at all (probably because the previous player is a team-member).

I don't know what to do if the admin password is lost- I'm having that problem with Double Blind right now.

my understanding is that if the admin password is lost then soi too the game is lost as you are forever stuck on the spot where the last save is

a very important reason to have the admin password clearly and carefully recorded somewhere

we may look to start a new office - that being the keeper of the keys
this person would keep a spreadsheet of all the game admin passwords that are in the threads
                    like a scared hall

I keep mine on a rewriteable disc in a spreadsheet with all of my game passwords as well

anyway it is looking like the games in question may be heading for the great scrap heap of pbems soon

                      • Paddy. The secure library is a great idea. With only Rommel and one other having access. I say Rommel as he is the admin for this forum, and a stand-up sort of individual. Almost incorruptible.

Ok - so that answers the question of when and admin password is set, but lost.

What do you do when one was never set? I guess that is the procedure I am asking about.

                        • On to Rommel...

I think there are tool for such things, beta, but as rommel says i don't think we should be advertising them; and i don't know them myself ...

I'm guessing that with no admin password set, that just means there's no way to bypass the player's password without actually cracking it...

My internet is still down, but I had an epiphany...why not just download the files from work and then take them home, play them, and send them back out from work. Duh. Anyway, it will take me a little longer to respond to saves but at least I won't be holding the game up.
