Yeah, I may have sent two copies... I was having trouble with Outlook. No difference between the two.

The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

In that case, it's best I rushed the great library. This was my very first scientific leader ever!
Turn sent to Moonbars.

Hmm. I was fairly sure I had gotten a MGL with a SGL hanging around waiting for a wonder, but maybe it was the other way around. Have had multiple MGLs, but only when one was an army (which I guess doesn't count anymore?)Originally posted by punkbass2000

It actually did something for me every time i used it - about 1 turn less off my research. I'm sure. (Of course, I never actually use it that way anymore ... who knowsThe SGA is broken. It dos nothing.
Eh, it seems otherwise, and civ3 has a lot of undocumented stuff in it. I haven't played enough to have statistical data to prove it - but i've gotten a SGL from philosophy itself (not its bonus tech) an awful lot, nearly every time i play a sci. civ on regent and get philosophy first ...
No tech is more likely to give a SGL than any other. If you are first to research any tech you have a 3% chance of gaining a SGL (5% for Scientific). Techs from huts don't count, techs from ToE/Phil do.<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

No, doesn't count in an army. It might just be that you can't get a MGL if you have any GL. I know for sure it's only the MGL that does a check though. I've had 3 SGLs at once before.Originally posted by snoopy369

Yeah, it says that, but if you pay close attention you'll see that it sits at one turn for as many turns as it supposedly saved. Your cities will say they are produciung more beakers, but nothing records them. Trust me, this has been well documented and Firaxians have admitted it. I could even refer you to a thread where Arathorn deeply berates and insults (well into excess) someone who makes this argument. It actually did something for me every time i used it - about 1 turn less off my research. Here is a game as the Sumerians. It's an HOF attempt and I restarted if I didn't get an SGL at or before Polytheism, which I beelined for. It is the only one I have received so far and I used it on the ToA. If you check F7, you'll see it's my only Wonder and that I did get it rather early, to the point that I couldn't have realistically researched both to Phil. and Poly. I also now have philosophy, and if you check around at F4, you'll see neither of my opponents do. There are no huts, so I must have researched it myself. I do not have a SGL.Eh, it seems otherwise, and civ3 has a lot of undocumented stuff in it. Bottom line, since the level was demigod and I like to wage wars a lot, I did the right thing cashing the scientific leader at the first opportunity as I would have been blocking the appearance of military leaders had I saved him for later. Sc. leaders should be switched off in games like this to avoid a huge luck factor intervening.
Turn sent to Moonbars, out of slot, I know, but hopefully he'll play his turn in time.

SGL to me are fine; they're rarely present anyways, but add for the occasional bit of spice in a game. Perhaps i'm not the hardcore player some of the folk here are, but I play these games for fun primarily, and the occasional free wonder makes things more fun imho.
Also, it discourages tech trading a bit. After all, if you trade all of your techs to other players, they no longer have to research them, and can be "first" to a lot of new techs. (Sort of like hording writing until you have philosophy within 4 turns.)<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

Yeh
I'm going to be lateish Thurs. AM slot (my time, 2.5 slots from now) because i'm working 10p-7a shift (and my slot is 5a-7a). That's why i'm up now, trying to shift my sleep schedule over for 1 day.
I'll also be late on the Sunday AM, but that's normal for this game on the weekend
