yet the lessons of days of old tell us how the powers that rule the great houses of Europe are not to be trusted

these mighty houses feel that they are have the right to send there peoples off to battle one another...

yet so often they live in their mighty palaces and never get to fight along with their people

the coming of Napoleon has changed that somewhat

now the great houses stand upon a mighty cliff, and it may not take much for them to fall

to this a group of the families came together and decided that their way of life must be preserved at any cost

My General Blucher has taken our Cuirassiers towards the French held lands of the Danes. I hope to liberate these towns quickly.

Colonel von Yorck and his light infantry have gathered in Frankfurt.

With our borders to the west protected by our Russian allies, and our borders to the south possibly covered by a new agreement with Austria, we are rushing many Regiments of Infantry to Hamburg and Frankfurt. These two towns are the border garrisons with France. These are the current danger points for my lands.

The Mighty Russian Empire looks favourably on this war with Napoleon you speak of. We think that wiping him off the face of Europe would be good for us all. Therefore, we have signed military alliances with all European nations against France, and benevolently engaged ourselves in mutual protection agreements with them. For a fee, of course. The latter was much needed by the motherland, for our economy is struggling through a deficit and corruption runs rampant.

Our first and foremost goal, therefore, is to set production on track, which we will achieve through the erection of numerous banks and courthouses across our nation, and for which purpose we have spent much gold this month, and after that, our sights will lie firmly on the heart of the French nation.

Ah tis I King Christopher of England, tis mighty fitting that my people be at war with the French swine at this time

I have carried out all of the necessary trades etc having alliances against the enemy with all nations of the world! yes even the Turks spit spit.

Gentleman my closest allies I have forwarded to both your nations the Naval tactics technology, where as I do not feel it fair to ask you to refrain from trades with other nations I must stress to you both that this information cost our research dept most highly.

If you desire England to be a strong ally it would be quite nice to receive some recompense from you both , though we leave these decisions to your good selves.

Remember technology costs Gold and our lesser allies might well one day become very dangerous opponents!! do we really want to help their nations to become more advanced ?

We have sighted French naval activity in the channel which we hope to clear up next month and Milan has been attacked by french regular cavalry and Volteguers. We know that both of our closest allies can not imediately assist us in this theatre, and as we are spread so thusly around the world it will be some time before England can truly offer Military assistance to you.

We have no firm plans as yet but will send you further reports as this war opens up on all its fronts.

Unfortunately, there aren't many troops we can currently send abroad. Our people aren't feeling very comfortable with the big war coming up, and a lot of brute force is needed to keep them in line, at least until some basic infrastructure is put up in the cities. Some of our core cities, however, have recently finished many construction projects and are ready to start pumping out troops, so hopefully we will soon make use of your roads. In the mean time, we have requested a formal Right of Passage through your lands in order to ensure our safe and fast passage towards France.

Gentlemen, Napoleans navy has attempted to take control of the Channel, but woe be unto them for their sailors are now feeding the fishes.

During this months action our elite Man 'o' War's patrolling the coastlines of Britain sank 3 French Frigates with no losses to the fleet, further one of our privateers sank a Spanish frigate who got too close to our operatives in the Atlantic. Yes we know they are allied in the fight against Boneparte, but they would otherwise attack our undercover shipping and we wish to avoid such losses.

Only by gaining and maintaining total naval supremacy can we prevent Napolean attempting to send troops to our shores. Ah such is war.

Prussia we have now greatly increased the garrison at Amsterdam, and can if necessary send a force out to relieve your troops at Frankfurt, we would though prefer to upgrade these lads first if you think you can hold on that long ? Nationalism being the key to this as we discussed at great length earlier. Please dont hesitate to request help if you feel it is urgently required, we would rather lose a few low grade units than see Napolean make territorial gains at your expense.

Milan did not come under fire this month and we chose to leave an injured imperial cavalry unit alone and upgraded our cavalry there instead.

Gentlemen science is of the upmost importance in this fight, do not weaken your research efforts at all, we need to gain the upper hand in this war as soon as is feasibly possible.

Thanks to the benevolent offering of wines from King Christopher, my people are now drunk and happy, and I can take down the armed guards in some of the cities, while more permanent measures are taken to calm down the populace.

The men free from homeland duty are now forwarded to the help of our Prussian allies, mostly through Austria to the south.

As well, I am happy to say that with the construction of numerous courthouses, justice is once more gaining the upper hand over corruption in Russia: the government income has risen last month so we were able to kick scientific spending up a notch or two.

As well, our capital and the sorrounding cities, are currently in the process of training new men to become mighty cossacks, so hopefully, we will be able to soon offer more military assistance to our allies than we have so far.

The Iron Marechal

A superb commander, Louis Davout's military and administrative skills matched Napoleon Bonaparte's.

Despite his aristocratic origins, the young Davout eagerly supported the French revolution and was the officer who ordered his men to fire upon the defecting General Dumouriez.

A general of brigade at 23, Davout spent his early years stationed near the German states and took part in the actions at Mannheim, Kehl and Haslach. He was captured, but exchanged, a move that the Prussians would later rue.

A colleague of Louis Desaix, Davout became known to Bonaparte and joined the expedition to Egypt.

He fought at the Pyramids, Aboukir and upon while returning to France following the abortive campaign was again captured - this time by the Royal Navy - but was repatriated after a month.

Promoted to general of division, Davout took charge of the cavalry arm of the Army of Italy.

Known as the Bravest of the Brave, Michel Ney was not known for his coolness, or an excessive amount of caution.

Irrefutably courageous, the hot-tempered soldier's soldier too often let his dash get in the way of sound military thinking.

He joined a hussars regiment in 1787 and through his elan and personality was quickly promoted

He was, however, insanely brave to the end and gave the signal to the firing squad to shoot.

The Frech Men of Danger series

Jacques Macdonald
French Marshal
Duc de Tarente
1765-1840


Of Scottish descent, Jacques Macdonald was the only marshal to win his baton on the battlefield.

He did so after destroying the Austrian centre at Wagram, but was fortunate to have been given the opportunity - having offended Napoleon Bonaparte with his vocal defence of the branded-traitor Jean Moreau.

It took five years for the emperor to recall him to active duty, despite Macdonald's fine military career that had begun in 1786.

An aide to General Dumouriez, he fought at Jemappes and, as a general of brigade in 1793, was at Tourcoing and Hondeschoote.

Time in Italy saw him the victor at Modena before returning to Germany where he was deputy to Moreau.
