  • Operating System and MP- lag.

I have a theory that some OS-es will cause lag on games.
Such as the heavy runtime Windows XP, perhaps?

I have experienced that Win2K with SP2 works fine on MP,
also it has no firewall implemented . It's very fast too if you have good connection...

Which OS do you use and why?

I use win2000 pro, and I think winXP sucks on Civ3-MP.
    What do you think?

IMO your statement is to general. It depends e.g. also on the processor speed, amount of memory and hard disk space. I do use WinXP on a P4 with 256 Mb RAM and it works fine.

By the way, even if not. I will not change operating system because a game (even though it is my favourite) is not performing on a certain OS. It should be the other way around.

Well, I partially agree with Franses...
I guess it works fine on your system.

If you would play Civ3 on a P3 with half that memory,
and used WinXP you would probably have caused a lot of lag.

Therefore I recommend NOT using WinXP if you have less than
a 1GHz CPU and physical RAM of 256 MB.
Experience tells me that XP drains far more memory than any
other OS, causing problems to several applications,
and even the operating system itself.

        Proof:
(Tested XP on a box of 128 MB RAM, and 700MHz. And that was a real plague)
