Damn it. Rommel, when this is over, I would like to hear a full explanation of how you balanced this map.
And if everybody that is playing this game is willing to, I would like to create a full world map of the explored areas. You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

Not sure I know what you mean, Krill. The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

One presumes he means he'd like to see a full map once we're legally able to do so. I'm adding in "legally allowed to do so" myself, since I for one intend to play this game fully by the Iron Civer Code of Conduct, at least ...
Krill - it's a crappy map. It's tiny, and it is obviously under substantial duress in terms of terrain options. That's what you get with a 5-player tiny random/random/random map ... Perhaps some players had slightly more to work with than others, but such is civ. Trust me when I say that I don't think anyone that i've seen yet has a remotely good start here, and you probably don't have the worst, though I'm not sure where your settler started. (Though I may or may not have contacted every civ, and would never indicate contact with any particular civ prior to having an embassy, nor refer to any specific map details prior to whichever tech is necessary for such things, mapmaking or navigation.)
Can we now table this discussion until the appropriate techs and embassies are established? Thanks!<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

To reiterate what I've tried to stress a few times (notably at the beginning of this thread), I don't make an attempt to 'balance' maps. Basically, I try to make sure every player with some knowledge of game strategy has good enough land to survive until the late ancient ages to give them ample opportunity to make some diplo/strategic moves- at least a chance to overcome a disadvantaged start.
I really ought to post the first save from the Blue game that I did let go by mistake. Sir Ralph had exactly one land tile capable of producing more than one food per turn between himself and his nearest opponent. He didn't say anything at all about it until I double checked the map and informed everyone it needed a restart for this reason. Sir Ralph then expressed sincere disappointment that he was not being allowed to continue with his 'challenging' start.Enjoy Slurm - it's highly addictive!
