Paddy, I thought I sent you the save? Right after playing the C3CDG turn with Orm? I resend now in any case.

Thank you Krill for resending the save
A very interesting discussion.
In the spirit of continuity I like Snoops idea...

Game On even if only till we restart, if that be the outcome of the above discussion...

Turn sent...
Krill, don't take this the wrong way (ie, not talkin' about skill), but I'll trade civs/starts with you if you'd like. The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

No, Theseus, I am happy to continue wandering until I find somewhere half decent. I was not going to even bring up the problem until I let it slip to Paddy. What annoys me is the way Rommel balanced the map.You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

I have very much adopted the GS philosophy in this regard... you do the best you can, and that is the measure of skill. Winning is not necessarily the point. :chuckle: I guess that's an AU thing too.The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

I generated a map and looked at the starts. I moved a few starts where it looked like a player would get clobbered before making contact will all other players. I moved a few resources when it looked like someone would get shut out of iron and/or horses in the ancient era.
Those changes constitute balancing. You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

I had no knowledge of who would have what start, therefore my judgement of player skill had no effect on the game whatsoever. Moving start locations and resources were done in the editor before tribes were assigned. This is not balancing, simply trimming the dead-end starts away. It involves no pretentions of equal balancing and cannot be skewed toward any particular player(s)
I only brought up skill level when looking back in review of the situation. I was disappionted by the defeatist attitude displayed but had no intention of intervening in the game at that point- I stated clearly up front all conditions involved in game generation and have adhered to them all the way. A restart would not be fair to the other players counting on the rules to be upheld. But the internals of this game are really up to the players involved so I would do a restart if wholeheartedly desired by everyone...Last edited by Rommel2D; June 18, 2005, 19:20.Enjoy Slurm - it's highly addictive!

If I could say just two things:
1) Let us not, any of us, impugn Rommel's efforts here...having set up AU 602 (and frankly, IC2 is a much more intensive project), I respect and applaud what he has put together.
2) As previously discussed, let's keeping playing the turns AQAP for the moment... concurrently, let's do a quick vote on a re-start, using the the following format:
A) No re-start.
B) I am OK either way.
C) Re-start.
I vote B.The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

Thanks T. One veto will block a restart, so the vote should be:
A) No restart
B) I'm OK with a restart
(both votes stand :-)
As this would be a change from the initial rules, I would like to add one stipulation to the restart: Krill's selected tribe from the first game will be discarded and the next available one from his choices will be used instead (and I say this without looking at what those choices are...)Last edited by Rommel2D; June 18, 2005, 21:30.Enjoy Slurm - it's highly addictive!

That's fine. The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.
