SP vs. PBEM: Playing vs. humans is much more fun. In fact, I often find SP un-fun whenever I attempt to play it these days.

PBEM vs. Live MP: I prefer turn-based to simultaneous (I gather is the usual method of MP play) and PBEM is much more flexible on playing hours than a MP game that is really only worth playing if you can set aside significant blocks of time.

Playing against real opponents is much more fun. But I don't have the time and probably the connection to play "regular" multiplayer games.

And, no, my banana doesn't play the games for me. It has other business to attend to

PBEM Games - I can receive the save and then THINK about how to play my move.....In MP games, one needs to keep up the tempo....this "keeping-up the beat" of an actual on-line/LAN game can lead to some dangerous, and at times, irrivocable choices...

At least with PBEM games, it gives one the time to play all of the possibilies (at least through the current player's mind)....but of course, there is always that additional possibily that the player didn't think of - and that's usually the possibity that plays out and the for said player is then bit in the ass over it....

I think that sums it up - PBEM games have more strategic/inner human inaction than you're regular MP game.

I think we all agree here. No point repeating what others said, so just read that.

My reason to play PBEMs is to beat Beta into submission every chance I get.

I didn't get a chance in that one. I guess I'll let him have one though, since all the others went my way.

True, you graciously joined us when Snotty dropped out....

You clearly have a difficult set of terrain and neighbors. Sorry that you got stuck in that "bad neighborhood" of RandomRandom

While I can easily blame the "bad neighborhood" and starting terrain (my capital is 4 tiles from Beta's capital, while on the other side it's 4 tiles from the coastline; along with no food bonus tiles), Beta just outplayed me by doing something I didn't expect. I knew that sooner or later we'd have to fight, but I wasn't expecting him to attack me so soon after we forced peace with Grandpa Troll (and I certainly wasn't expecting Troll to betray that peace and attack Witt and cause you and McMeadows to not be able to help me).

The combination of events caught me with my pants down so to speak, plus I lost two of my three primary production cities at the outset of his attack. While I've done well in not losing any land since that time and making Beta pay for his attacks, he has the upper hand in terms of unit production that I can't even come close to matching now. It's only a matter of time before he finally breaks through, especially after my poor RNG luck with a few turns back when I lost 3 of my 4 attacking MedInfs.

Playing PBEM helped me get my addiction under control. Now I can be a simi-productive member of society, at least while I'm waiting to get the save.

I hear you. SP really sucks after you taste human blood in a PBEM. Got me un-hooked, too.

EDIT: Not that it made more "productive" or something. I just have more time for games not called "Civ".
