  • World War I in Europe - sign up

Finally found one that does not have dozens of civs and/or a too huge map. The scenario requires a download of approximately 14 MB, which can be found on this site. It has some new units, mainly for flavour (slightly different planes, tanks, etc.—similar to the flavour units in the Napoleonic Conquest). The MP version came with bugs, but I fixed those (hopefully all of them...). Some countries are missing, and some have more territory incorporated due to the MP limit of 8 players.

This game is full. Now for real.
    Tracker thread (link)

    Civs to play with:
    • Germany (Modo)
    • Russia (Trollius IV)
    • France (Masuro)
    • Britain (Beta)
    • Spain (Paddy)
    • Ottomen (Joncnunn)
    • Austria-Hungary (Shogun Gunner)
    • Serbia-Romania-Greece (Ljube)

No alliances are fixed, so diplomacy will be very important in this game. The only victory conditions are Domination and Conquest.

Selling anything to the AI on the first turn is prohibited to prevent the known exploit (AI values things way too high on the first turn in scenarios.)

No Settlers can be built, so no razing cities, please.

Below you can see a map showing the borders at the beginning of the scenario.

Hey Modo, that map has one very serious error compared to historic WWI : Italy had already unified!!!

At the very least reunifiy Italy and give it to all to Spain since we can't have 9 countries. Italy reneged on it's alliance with the Central Powers at the beginning of the war and started netural and joined the allies later.

That bits of UK cultural influence in Turkey: NOPE!
Increase culture of the Turkish cities and decrease cultural influence of UK cities there to fix.

I would also consider spliting Protogual from Spain and giving that to the UK.

I'd recommend removing the city(s) in Swisterland entirely, maybe create a barb unit with a massive defense factor and no movement points and place such units there.

Jon, the idea is to have a fun game. I do not expect it to be historically correct, as it is simply impossible with the number of civs we can use in MP. Did you notice, for example, that there is like no Scandinavia?

And, more importantly, which civ would you like to play?

Ljube, you can only play one of them civs. You need to choose.

Scandinavia did indeed stay out of WW I completely, or at the very least played an insingificant role, so no cities there makes sense.

Hum, if there's no settlers allowed, Spain could also be emptied of cities with a wall of strong defensive barbs added, and Protogual handed over to the UK, that would then free up a player spot for Austria.

If you reunify Italy, I'd like Italy. But if not then Ottoman Empire.

                Some alliance settings:

Serbia locked into an alliance with Russia.

Serbia (and Russia) has locked war with Austrian-Hungary.

Germany has locked war with UK

All other powers are free to choose sides.

I'd also sugest knocking Fascism out of the tech tree entirely, doesn't really belong as a WWI govt.

Unlike with the AI, locked wars do not do much for players, except prohibiting trade. Nobody can actually make me attack somebody, so there is little point trying to force it this way. Locked alliances, on the other hand, make diplomacy less relevant, by keeping military power together without requiring any effort from the players.

Frankly, I see no point setting those, except when dealing with AI. Remember the WWII game? No locked anything works just fine so far. I might use locked alliances/wars only if a player happens to play a civ historically allied with one controlled by the AI.

Welcome to the new leader of the Ottomen.

EDIT: Fascism is for those that start with governments that have War Weariness. I would say the same thing applies to Communism. With tech costs raised a bit (Emperor level), the choice whether to research Fascism becomes a part of strategy.

Britain, Russia, or Austria-Hungary. I am easy with all three, but wouldn't mind playing the Brits. Lord knows I played Avalon Hill's Jutland enough when I was younger.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.
