  • Funny Thing about PBEM: A newcomers first year in review

I am coming up on a year playing CIVIII PBEM

    Here is what I see

I have no time to play I got 30+ saves awaiting and the sharks circling fer a chew on me (and the turn to be sent)

I get caught up where I can play a little and then minimal turn rates

I have however noticed for all the hoopla surrounding PBEM Matches several things stand out

    #1-DEMO Games supercede all PBEM's

#2-Multiple players over 4 slow a game down terribly in most caes

#3-I see why people play 30+ games, so that you have 2-4 great turns rates
    ok

#4-Succession Games-extremely fun but take too much time for people to be committed to finishing

#5-Those whom defend Succession games and the committment it takes run fer a demo game like its a Saturday Night date with a cheerleader looking fer action

I find myself posting in Other Games thread and starting this thread which means I am bored to tears waiting fer turns

    6 turns in 2 days

    I have an idea

Ill start another story then and I am almost positive I will be flooded with turns

amazing the cycles PBEM gos through

    Ok

Thats just be voicing my first year observations

Great post Gramps - with some good insights. I am so far behind in my pbems I should send you some to play for me. When I get more time - I will provide a longer response.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

Are you trying to hide this GT, or should I move it to the main forum where (hopefully) more people will see it?

BTW- rather than start a story, I say you should take your harem out on tour. The midwest has great market potential for mediterranean love slaves...
Enjoy Slurm - it's highly addictive!

Nah Rommel2D not trying to hide it

I love the CIV Genre and while my first love has been Call To Power I am seeing why the fuss about CIVIII because of its better ai and more detailed and in depth game play

I was kinda bored and wishing my email box was full

I just started to conjur up a recap of my first year

        about the Gurls of Grandpa..

I shall have to go to Grandpa's Google Ranch to find a few more to join

You could leave it where it would most appropriately be located for the rules and such

I had put it here as a prompt but in fact should have been on main page of PBEM

        Thanks
and I will get to the turns in my box whence I return from the field

        Peace

I've noticed that the more people in a game, the slower it goes and the more likely it'll fade away. I'm in only four at the moment and in three of them, I see one turn a week.

which is why I prefer one on ones

but the advantage of several people is not knowing who may stab ya in the back

I kinda wish but I do understand why games come and go a matter of timing mostly

You know, the only PBEM of mine that has yet finished was a 3-player cooperative game I had with Togas and BigFree. Some nights when we were all in chat we'd knock off multiple turns at a go.

I really should join a Pong PBEM sometime. Maybe I could actually add another PBEM's worth of files to my "completed" folder.

ahh the ever wonders and miracles of when a save will arrive next

the joys of being in multiple games sent to multiple places around the globe certainbly can be fun

although I have had some fun with a series of games where the same group of people are involved.. and still certain saves go faster then others

yes time can be a killer, and a large complicated game will take more time than a small just started adventure...

glad you are in the village Gramps... you and your goggle ranch
