This is for the completion of the second tournament- I think I'll start working on an entirely new CIV PTBS tournament in a few weeks, once finals are over for me...
Well, email doesn't seem to be working, so let's work on this here.
This will be a 4-player game played on a CIV 1.61 PitBoss application using sequential (normal) turns, [tiny] pangaea. The first option that needs resolving will be the length of time available to complete your turn. As soon as one player has completed their turn and pressed the red button by their flag, the clock starts for the next player, and an email message is automatically generated and sent to them. I haven't experimented enough to figure out for sure what happens when you miss your turn, but I think it just means none of your units get to move, unless they were given orders previously. All builds and science/money accumulation should count.
The best turn timer options IMO would be; 24 hours- no matter when the previous player moved, you have an entire day to get around to your move; 16 hours- a little faster, should let players sleep and go to work without needing to play until they get home; 12 hours- IMO the practical limit, if all players have access at work or are willing take the time when they get up before leaving for work, or for unconventionally scheduled true CIV addicts... ;-)
I think we can agree to take down the game for anyone that goes on vacation or takes another LOA- if two or three of the others complain about abuse of this, we'll work something out.
So, a quick recap of PitBoss:
The game will be set up on a PC (probably mine) and left running constantly. A player will connect using Direct IP, play their turn, and click the red button by their flag when they are set. At this point, the next player recieves an automatic email to let them know the turn is ready for them. They then log in by DirectIP and the cycle repeats.
If you do not play your turn within a number of hours after the last palyer has completed theirs, your turn ends automatically. Your cities are processed like normal, but only units that are automated or given orders previously will do anything. The next player then recieves an email that the turn is ready and they are on the clock.
If anyone notifies me that they will be unavailable for a certain period, I will save the PitBoss once it is their turn and start it again when they return.
I need to hear how much time everyone thinks they need to play their turn each time. 24, 16, or 12 hours?
[Edit: changed to tiny pangaea to avoid confusion]
Ok, unless there are any strong objections, we'll go with 24 hours. Because of the unusual victory conditions of the first round, I'd say we should go for an equal ranking system for determination of the player civs- e-mail or PM me your top 5 v1.61 CIV leaders in the order you would like to play them in the championship.
