    • Did the issue with war happiness exploit ever come up?

I'd vote personally for the honor system requiring a declaration of war prior to any offensive movement through a players' territory. I'd be strongly, strongly opposed to requiring only one attack on the first turn; this would wreck the game for me and i'd probably not play - my war style is to have a massive crushing first turn offensive, and that's the only way i like to play (or know how ).

But i totally understand the exploit (if it's accurate - i just lost war happiness (gained war weariness) in a PBEM game by having someone declare war on me when my units were within his territory, albeit not offensively (he had settled a turn or two before on my border and i hadn't bothered to move my units). Is it possible the exploit doesn't really exist?

      • I'm not sure if the exploit in question is directly related to the situation you mention. (If your opponent declared war first, you should have received the -10 war 'happiness'. However, with enough of your units in his territory and/or taking damage, or weariness left from an old conflict, you might have had enough positive points for it to show as weariness) We were trying to address the lack of a 'leave or declare war' function in the game.

This honor system would not come close to approximating the single player situation. It would be at least as big a change in game play, only in favor of the defender instead of the aggressor. The 'single tresspassing unit attack' rule is the closest I think we could come to making PBEM function like the game is designed to.

If an entire group agrees to either of these systems before the game, I'll hold them to it- just like the optional ban on ship chaining. However, I'm not going to mention either one in the Code (and I'll remove ship chaining) because they seem more likely to confuse than help gameplay. I will make seperate mention somewhere of these mutually available exploits to help the less experienced PBEMers prepare for Bongo.

          • I've made up a dedicated thread for the second tournament. Things are arranged to make them clearer and hopefully coherent to new participants. I'd welcome any suggestions, complaints, donations (ok, so it isn't exactly AoM ;-), etc. on how it looks so far.
