Hmmm- I thought Cream's ablum 'Disraeli Gears' had this quote sampled from a Warner Bros cartoon featuring Foghorn Leghorn. I might have got something mixed up somewhere along the line, though...

Quite possible. Clemens was from Missouri, but moved to San Fran right around the war between the states, from what i recall. Though never a senator from what i recall, but who knows

I think the senator was a more contemporary figure, from around the 1950's, if that was the case.
