Chrisius, I understand your position. What you don't acknowledge is that you and I were faced with the exact same situation, but we handled it differently.
Paddy destroyed Prussian cities, I changed strategy. Sure I protested on the thread, but that was all as "the Austrian King".
Wittlich and I destroyed our cities, you complain on the thread.
Obviously, I would need to turn and fight at some point. Abandoning EVERY city in the face of Spanish troops would be an idiot strategy. Abandoned a very low production town, near a hostile border and force, after drafting as many poor suckers as I could from the town. Abandoning it to fight at another place on another day is a valid military tactic.
I don't believe we ever stated the "no razing" policy as a RULE of the game. Just as Bongo said, it was part of the dialog and the game. Quite frankly, Paddy never definitively stepped forward and said he would never do it again... In fact, I got the direct impression Austrian cities potentially be facing that fate! I found his response intriquing and raised the interest in the game because I didn't know what to expect from him! That is what makes the game interesting.
So the bottom line, Chrisius, I disagree with several of your points.
1. I don't think it's a idiot or cowardly strategy.
2. I don't think it's a RULE OF THE GAME.
3. I demand to have the right to abandon my own cities, if necessary.
4. I don't think any of the situations when a city was razed was it "unfair" to anyone.
I'm sorry that you feel that you invested so much time and it's not going the way you wanted. Well, WE ALL invested so much time, not just you. Quite frankly, your stubborness on this issue pushed Wittlich away. I'm not happy about that at all.
I've been in other PBEMs where decisions were made that I didn't like, but you know what I did? I realized I was in the minority and I went along with the wishes of the majority -- in the interest of cooperation and fun. I wish you would adopt this attitude.
