as to "Hug an Aussie Day", well as open and happy a people that we are, I would recommend you announce your intention first. Thus giving the bloke or gal the opportunity to stand back... the consequences could be rather unpleasant otherwise.
As to the whole "Hug an Aussie Day", I have never heard of it. Possibly an American friendship thing...
