Ick... another v1.22 game. I hate this dual install B.S. When is Firaxis/Atari going to fix that stupid patch?

          Oh fine, I'll play.

Hey, just a random thought (and feel free to poo-poo me if it's dumb) --
would anyone be interested in setting up the initial alliances based on roughly pre-WWI alliances? Presumably not locked alliances since we're all humans and that wouldn't be as fun, but just starting out that way? Something like:

                  England-France-Netherlands
                  Germany-Ottomans
Russians-Spain (since Russia needs an ally and Spain was a non-factor at the time anyways ... could also give Russia to the England group and Spain to the Germany group to have 2 alliance groups instead of the (slightly more realistic) 3 ... )

I just thought it might throw an interesting spin on things ...

                    Mais, d'accord! Avec plaisir!

Snoopy - interesting idea - but not sure of starting positions. I think we should let the alliances form naturally.

So - the standard rules apply. No out of game contact before meeting in-game. Also - Rommel2D has raised an interesting point in the March Madness/Iron Civer discussion regarding the role of Embassies. We clearly do not need to resolve it now - but I throw it out for discussion.

And damn - I forgot to ask - what time works best for folks for playing. I am 7:00-8:00 est and 18:00 to 23:00 est (12:00 to 13:00 gmt and 23:00 to 4:00 gmt). I will set up the game order based on that. Wil start the game later tonight if I get enough responses - or by tomorrow am.

PMed this to you, but for everyone else's pleasure:

I play 6:00 to 6:45 am CT, which is 7 to 7:45 am ET or 12 to 12:45 pm GMT (i think), and then again 6-7pm to 11pm-12am CT (7 or 8 pm to 12 or 1am et, 12-1am GMT to 5-6am GMT). IE, I wake up, I play any turns waiting for me, I go to work, I come home, I play until sleepytime. I'm pretty religious about both times, unless I wake up late accidentally which of course happens occasionally.

Basically, it looks like I'm on just after you, Beta.

edit: and I am (unusually) working tonight 10pm CT to 6am CT, so I'd put me near the end of the round if you set it up tonight expecting a round played tonight. However, I'll check it ASAP when I get home like 6:20am CT, so if you set it up after that I'm good for beginning of round.

How's this for a play order:

                        Beta GMT-5
                        snoopy369 GMT-6
                        Arnelos GMT-7
                        Paddy the Scot GMT+9
                        McMeadows GMT+1
                        ChrisiusMaximus GMT
                        alexman GMT-5

The only question here is to when you can play your turns alexman. I can play before work in the morning - so if you would prefer that I precede you, then I will switch us around, and you will play second, snoopy 3rd, etc.

Also - if anyone works and plays at weird hours (if you know what I mean ), we may need to change it.

                        Comments?

(sorry snoop - just saw your PM.)

Only comment I have is that since we both play in the early AM, if anyone else plays in that time frame (1200 GMT roughly) they should be immediately after or before us so to get the most turns out of the way ... like, tho I've never played with him, I'd guess Paddy would play during that time (like 2100), so perhaps he should be before arnelos (unless you also play in the AM arnelos)? Or will that screw things up at night ... 000 GMT would be 0900 paddy time - Paddy do you play in the early AM too?

anyways, as long as we all play once a day I suppose it should all be good.

I can play my turns pretty much as soon as I receive them from 14:00 to 22:00 GMT (9-5 Eastern US). I can also play one turn some time between 22:00 and 3:00 GMT (5-10 pm my time).

So, Monsieur Beta, if you leave home to go to work before 9, you should probably go before me.

                            My first C3C PBEM! Yay!

k so I'm a total geek and spent the last half hour figuring out when you all post normally (except for those of you who posted actual availability). I get (approximate and taking into account weekends):
ALL TIMES EASTERN STANDARD TIME, since that's about half of us:

                              Paddy 2300-1000
                              Chrisius 1300-1800
                              Beta 1800-2300, also 700-800
                              Snoopy369 1900-2400, also 700-800
                              McMeadows 400-1000, 1700-1900 (maybe?)
                              Alexman 900-1700,1700-2200 one turn
Arnelos 1900-2300, also around 9:00 am?

                              That implies something like this?

Beta Turn 1.1: early morning 7am EST
                              Snoopy369 Turn 1.2: early morning 7:15am EST
Alexman Turn 1.3: morning 9:00 am EST
Arnelos Turn 1.4: morning 9:15 am EST
Paddy Turn 1.5: morning 9:30am EST
McMeadows Turn 1.6: morning 10:00 am EST
Chrisius Turn 1.7: afternoon 13:00 (pm) EST
Beta Turn 2.1: evening 18:00 EST
                              Snoopy369 Turn 2.2: evening 19:00 EST
Alexman Turn 2.3: night 21:00 EST
Arnelos Turn 2.4: night 22:00 EST
Paddy Turn 2.5: night 0:00 EST
McMeadows Turn 2.6: early morning 0400 EST
Chrisius Turn 2.7: afernoon 13:00 EST

Then Turn 2 rinses and repeats, unless Chrisius and McMeadows can do their respective turns before 7:00 am EST, in which case turn 1 + turn 2 repeat. IE, if the two of you can do an early AM turn, like 7-9 am GMT (2am-4am EST) then we get 2 turns a day without too much difficulty (unless the above is difficult for y'all in that european time zone).

I see no other way to get around the two GMTers only having one turn per day based on the USA folks availability, since GMT night is during the rest of ours' working hours (and I'm not as lucky as Alexman here in the ability to play at work ). However, not only does this give us SOME chance at 2 turns a day, it also gives us a very good chance to make up missed days (by taking advantage of the morning runs, and since you GMT folks can presumably also play in that 1000-1800 EST time slot if something goes wrong before you).

Of course, if any of those guesses of availability are wrong, then the whole thing goes to pot. But they should be close. Arnelos and McMeadows in particular post if you're drastically different than this as I had less to work with than I did with Paddy, who seems to be playing in more PBEM games than the rest of us combined. (Which means presumably Paddy you always have a turn waiting for you SOMEwhere ... must be nice ... )

                              -Joe

edit: one thing i noticed, Paddy doesn't seem to always be online as late as 9:30 EST (midnightish your time i think Paddy). This would mess up Turn Sequence #1, since Alexman can't do it before 0900 est and Arnelos doesn't seem to do it much earlier either when he is in the AM. An earlier sequence I had put Paddy before those two (after Beta and I), but that messed up the later turn sequence #2 since he'd have to be on early (pre-22:00 EST) to get it in before Alexman is out (and thus beta and I wouldn't play until the evening).

Or maybe I'm overanalyzing this. Who knows.
