                      Does it matter that I have lived in Brisbane for half a year? I support the Reds and walk around wearing a Wallaby shirt..

                      Nevertheless the name New Zealand comes from the Dutch province Zeeland (litterally Sealand). I think Abel Tasman was from around there, or at least some of those explorers in those days. Still a shame we didn't claim Australia, when we found its Westcoast. Some names at least still remember us Dutch. We have a name for exploring good things, and not recognising it ourselves. Everytime it comes down to establish New Amsterdam I have to think of that fool that traded it for Suriname (a South American jungle country). Now New Amsterdam goes by as New York . Harlem and Brooklyn have a Dutch origin in their name.
                      Furthermore Philips invented the videotape, having superior performance, but applying inferior marketing lost the battle against the Sony standard VHS. The invention of the CD worked a little batter, but CD-i (a pre DVD) was dramatic again.

                      At least we're a great civ in C3C...

                            Don't worry, McMeadows. I know of Tasman, and of the original 'Zealand'. We don't hate the Aussies, we jsut let them win in a few sports to massage their egos from being descended from English convicts.
