Sparta vs Shogun Gunner After Action Report
When I first saw my start, I was pretty happy with it, river location, with forest and gems to the north.
I got the French, where Sparta got the Carthaginians. Sumerians and Americans were to the two AI civs. I realized right away that Carth's UU could kick my butt, so I made defense a priority. I had the advantage of commerical, where Carth had seafaring. I was hoping the geography would not provide him another benefit.Haven't been here for ages....

Sparta/Shogun AAR part 2
Carthage found me first -- but we remained at peace beyond the thirty turn limit (in fact, we were never at war). Carthage had sent a warrior all around my borders, but I didn't have troops near him, so I didn't know his area.
While at peace with Carthage, I met the Sumerians, continued to expand my empire. I found several luxuries around my capital city -- including three iron! I worried less about the Carthage UU at that point. I figured swordsmen would hold their own. I settled several cities unimpeded.
In 2350, Sparta told me that America had captured his capital. I had a little diplomatic session with America which confirmed this fact...I saw Carthage listed as an American city on his city list!!!Haven't been here for ages....

I got my butt kicked, by the Americans.
I had a decent start, with ivory and spice real close to my capital.
The americans sent two archers and a warrior to my capital and took out my one defender.
The rest of the game was downhill....
congrats shogun.

Sparta/Shogun Gunner AAR part 3
Well, Carthage had its problems. Sumeria declared war on Carthage while Carthage will still fighting America. I planted a few more cities, connected my iron and started producing swordsmen...as fast as I could...
Good thing I did, Sumeria declared war on me for the completely unforgiveable sin in asking foreign troops to leave our terrority! Good thing I had the swords handy...I crushed two of their cities, working on sacking two more cities when Sparta informed me he had only one city left. At this point, with diminish hope or opportunity to reverse his situation, Sparta resigned.Haven't been here for ages....

Sparta/Shogun AAR Final
Attached is the last screen shot. Sumeria is in the SE and was expanding across the bottom of the screen. They sent a settler/archer to the NE, but as you can see, ruins are the only thing to mark that attempt at expansion by the Sumerian empire
Carthage was in the SW and the Americans must have been on the other side of Carthage. I kept a settler/spearman bottled up in the isthmus as they were trying to expand into my terrority through Carthage.
Good game Sparta. It was the first multiplayer tourney game for both of us.Haven't been here for ages....

Congrats Shogun! Like I stated earlier - anything is possible!
My game with Taian has gone into over-time - will be continuing tomorrow evening...I firmly believe it's his game...but...you never know.____________________________

Thanks Wittlich. Good game! Like I said on MSN...I think I lucked out a bit (ok...a lot...) with the start location.
Time for a bit of an AAR..
I chose the Incas due to their expansionistic/agricultural combo. My theory was that in MP, especially in 1v1, one of the most important things is to map out the land asap. That will give an indication of where the other human is as well as the AI. The proper expansion direction can then be pursued. Anyway, my start location is shown below. That place where my scout is currently standing actually had a hut under it that I got Ceremonial Burial from right off the hop. I loved the abundance of river, paired with my agri trait and was already planning to found a city on the third tile due south of Cuzco. My general exploring strategy would be to move in expanding circles around the capital as much as possible, taking advantage of favorable terrain (ie. get 2 moves if possible ).Walk softly and carry a big stick...or better yet, a remote controlled nuclear device.

Exploration of the surrounding area revealed both abundant rivers and resources. Incense, dyes, gems and further off, ivory were all within striking distance. By the end of the game, all 4 of these were hooked up to my empire. As well, horses would prove to be located within the borders of my capital. Anyway, more on that later. In 3350BC, I popped another hut and received a free city. Unfortuneately, it wasn't located on a river, nor did it have access to productive terrain. I turned it into a warrior/worker city and it produced one of each every 20 turns.Walk softly and carry a big stick...or better yet, a remote controlled nuclear device.
