  • Seeing the amount of GFs PBEMs and demogames I really wonder how he handles all this, or more precise, where he takes all the time from.

    • I'm stationed in a swamp, far and away from all civilization.

And I pretty much used all the conversational possibilities with the local alligator population quite some time ago.

      • What do you do in the Armed Forces, Ghengis? Something to do with computers?

The sun never sets on a PBEM game.

Not far enough, I fear, or else you wouldn't play a game with that name.

Sounds like a fun place indeed.

No. I was busy with other things last night. I will play and post the turn this evening.

When I signed up 6 years ago, I was trained in the Artillery branch. However, the artillery has the lowest intelligence requirement in the entire Department of Defense. If you are not smart enough to march in the Infantry you can still be in the Artillery.

Consequently, after my first 5 months I was put in the training room (I was one of 3 people in my battery that knew how to turn on a computer) and processed paperwork and the what not. When I came back to the states I was assigned to Battalion HQ and processed awards/eval reports until an NCO was relieved from PMO (maintence/part ordering and equipment status) at which point I was put in charge of that for BN HQ. Two months later I was yanked by Brigade HQ and made Command Secretary and basically asssisted the Brigade Commander and Command Sergeant Major for the last two years.

I left, joined the National Guard and was promptly activated and sent to guard a swamp. That's my military career in a nutshell.

Well the condensed version anyway, I have all sorts of hilarious stories of stupidity during my adventures, but they are too many and would take too long to list...

                    G.A.T.O.R. - GhengisFarb's Amphibious Transport Or Reconnaissance

I hear it is a fleet of 1 man submarines that look like alligators. You know you're in trouble if you see about 50 alligators congregating in a swamp in your country. It might just be Ghengis and his platoon of "gators" doing reconnaissance.

                    • We're still working on the documentation for my Gator Guard concept of Soldiers mounted on Alligators for amphibious patrols..........

                      • Interesting career. Is the National Guard a kind of reserve force? Weekend warrior, that kind of thing? If you're activated do you have to leave your job and family for a set amount of time?
I was in the militia when I was seventeen but I didn't much like it. Too many people telling me what to do when I didn't want to do it.
