  • Iraqi Freedom Mod

    I'm putting together a mod based on the war in Iraq and could use a little help. I have a Eurasian map and set the victory condition to mass-regicide, but some of the new equipment is baffling. Any suggestions for unit values would be appreciated.

    The new technology as listed in a recent newpaper blurb:

    * M-17 Hut-Crusher

    * Hummer reconfigured for military use

    * GBU-28 "Ziggurat Zapper" bomb

    * Chickenhawk VII meat-seeking cruise missle

    * M-220 anti-men-without-shoes-and-weapons laser

    Also, not mentioned in the article but heard of by rumor:

    * F-113 Stealth "Palace Popper"

    Civ3 castrated the airpower, so you may want to make your primary changes there.

    I would make a very detailed map of Iraq in order to have a credible scenario. Check with news sources for locations of interest.

          You might also want to post this in the Creation forum. That's where all the scenario buffs hang around. Or ask a mod to move it.

            Dont forget the chemicals resource for those chemical weapons plants.

            Could friendly fire somehow be included in the mod? Like losing half of your units to it by default.

            Oh, yes... and the AIM-007, Brit-seeking missile.

              Yeah, as if there's a lot of chemical facilities there.

                good idea
                set turns to days, give MA 40,30,8 and give the cruise missiles ROF of 3 and lethal bombard. give tons of em to the attackers.
                defenders get 1 tank and some riflemen in each major city.

                all countries get the unit "demonstrators" as part of special city workers. which reduces happiness by 1 each and make oil the only source for happiness

                and as last, the UU "colliding helicopters", two units crash together every now and then

                  Sorry, the post was intended as satire. Smileys have been omitted to help conserve for the war effort. ;-)

                  On a sort of topical note, was an explanation ever given by Firaxis when they removed 'poison water supply' from the espionage options in the original Civ3? Was it due to the anthrax scare or game balance considerations?

                    I think it was for game balance. But I sure miss that.

                      This seems about right, except:
                      give the cruise missiles ROF of 3 and lethal bombard
                      Wasn't the lethal bombard flag created for stock cruise missles in the first place?

                      the UU "colliding helicopters", two units crash together every now and then
                      That would be the AH-69 "Mating Eagle", right?

                        and another unit, that was used in afghanistan but not (yet) in iraq:
                        R-12 "Maple Leaf Fire" (explode when canadians are close)...

                        hmm... seeing all these special units i gradually wonder if these so called accidents aren't really without purpose :hmm:

                          No, they feared that some player learns bad bad things from the game and applies them in real world with horrible results.

                          After Kosovan crisis it would have been appropriate for someone to make a scenario about US vs Yugoslavia, in which US loses the whole game if they lose even one military unit to the enemy. Wonder how that works for this current phreedom operation (not counting friendly fire, of course)?

                            well... a unit in the game is not just one fighter, but a whole group (brigade? ... i don't know the english names for the different sizes).

                            in the current "liberation" about 60 died 'till now, of which maybe only 20-30 through 'enemy influence'. by end of this war, the number still won't exceed 100 (that is on the attacker's side.... it's clear that the attackee has suffered probably the hundredfold of deaths)

                            transferred to civ3, that's probably not even a single hitpoint loss (and concidering a quarter million soldiers down there, what are 100?)

                              A 100 families having to receive the bad news, and half of them will even listen that it was an accidental miscalculation of firing artillery or bombardment. A stupid way of dying.
