      Flight, you're evil.

      I'd say just grammatics.

The problem is, we did not understand what you asked before. I have no clue of what you are asking. It seems that you forgot some part of your question when you were typing it.

I asked about your thoughts on this game. It's quirks, plaing behavior, stuff things that aren't in

The most important thing that I would like to know is: how long will take turn processing on larger maps on 450 Mhz box.
It could be fairly nasty if I'd start at huge map then dicovered I must wait half hour for next turn.

                - Civ3 can be a fun game, it is a polished game (now, with the most recent patch) and offer a good replayability.

                - Civ3 AI is well-thought and offer a challenge (provided you understand that they "dumbed down" some aspects of the game in order to make an AI that could be challenging)

                - If you try to play huge maps with a 450 MHz processor you're going to suffer some slowdown, especially at the later stages of the game. If you have lots of RAM, though, this slowdown may be less pronounced, but it will be there nonetheless.

                - I personally prefer SMAC (Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri), but this is a matter of personal taste, of course.

                - I'd guess that if you're a Civ2 veteran you'll be mildly disappointed with the game. Otherwise, you'll probably enjoy it.
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

I love SMAC also, but I think Civ 3 is currently the best turn-based strategy game, so you cannot do better.

I'd say give it a try. Just stay away from huge or large maps and turn off as much animation as possible.

If it turns out to be too slow for your taste, you can always remove it from your hard drive.

Well, I agree with purple... Civ3 is currently, if not the best , one of best TBS (turn based strategy) games around...

I personally like it more than civ2, but, as Alexnm said, it is just a matter of personal taste.

much more challenging than Civ2, that alone makes the difference...

Well, it does make a big difference.

How can I slow down tech research? It could be more interesting with tanks at 1900 than 1600.

                        And thaks for tips.

Lots of wars have a tendency to make research slow down big time... But that's just my empirical experience.

it can go all the way to 1000 which would be the slowest

You can alter the time scale also (PTW and I think 1.29) which IMO is pretty screwed as it is.

Editor / Scenario Paramenters / Time Scale

I use the old Civ2 time scale which I think makes it a little more accurate when actually playing. The Civ2 time scale is:

                            First 50 turns = 50 units
                            Next 50 turns = 25 units
                            Next 50 turns = 25 units
                            Next 50 turns = 10 units
                            Next 50 turns = 5 units
                            Next 50 turns = 2 units
                            Next 50 turns = 1 unit

The time scale is pretty arbitrary as it is, and should not be a major consideration. Who knows, perhaps if the Great Library at Alexandria had not been burned, there WOULD have been tanks in 1600 AD.

OTH, without warfare, perhaps there would not be any tanks built, even today!
