  • What level do you play on?

At the moment after a year of playing Civ III on and off (i.e. a couple of weeks, on a couple of months off) I've managed to beat Monarch handily.

I've started a couple of games on Emperor but I find it hard going and get behind very quickly.

I can't play at any level below Monarch because it becomes too easy to win (I play a slow expansion strategy with high culture and as much trade and money as I can get).

I always play on a regular sized world with the maximum number of civs. Is this why I can't get anywhere on Emperor?

Anyway, what level do you usually play on?

I'm moving on to Monarch after some time of Regenting civ, it offers a good challenge for me. emperor is in a long run (looooooong one)

I went backwards, from Monarch to Regent, recently.

I usually play Monarch and Emperor games.

Emperor games for more challenge, and Monrach games for more "calm", builder type, gameplay.

Emperor is a challenge, if you want to play this game seriously.

But I like to 'play' around with AI factions

            Emperor or Diety.

I like regent-level. Sometime by now I'll start Monarch, but I'd like to feel a little more prepared. I'm still absorbing some tactics and routes.

deity at the moment, i just skipped emperor. i have won a few games on deity, but it's not really that much fun being beaten up all the time, somehow. i think i will go down to emperor or monarchy again.

Try Regent. It starts to annoy you when AI cheats, all the time, and you have to actually _fight_ [not literally] ( ) to win the game.

Emperor. I've got stock games pretty much under control, and only have a problem when Killer AIs emerge, mostly when using the AU Mod.

Give a good read in the strategy forum (especially AU games) and applying this to your game means you can beat up to monarch fairly easily. Try things of your own, and you'll manage to beat emperor often...

I'm on monarch, and have been slowly working my way up through the ranks.

I hardly ever play SP games anymore(pbem are IMO much more fun), but when I did, I alternated between emperor and deity.

I might play at any level from Chieftain to Emperor but usually Regent. I rarely finish a game though.

If I play at Deity (which is rare) I make sure I have a dream starting location on a tiny map via the editor (I don't mind if you call that a cheat).
