    I just don't userstand.

If only difference between US and UK version is in type of copy-protection used, with rest of the code the same, then why there is delay at all.

    All you need is:
    -remove one protection
    -add another one

You surely don't need work on patch from scratch.

    I really don't understand.

      I'm seeking some clarification.

Am I correct in assuming that I can not get the latest patched single-player game without purchasing the PTW expansion? I do not play TBS games multi-player, nor do I wish to. All I want is a playable, and enjoyable, single-player experience. I hear Civ3 might actually be worth it with the latest patches. However, if I need to purchase the expansion and patch /that/ to get the best single-player experience currently available for Civ3, then screw it.

      -Yook

P.S. I'm in the US, so unlike the international folks waiting for a patch, I'm not double screwed.

            I think I misunderstood something.

I had read/heard that PTW made changes to/patched the single-player game. Are these changes (not counting new units and the whatnot, the stuff that expansion packs are for) incorporated into the standalone Civ3 in subsequent patches?

In other words, and to be frank, is it worth playing yet, if one doesn't feel like shelling out more money for PTW?

Yes, I know that's a loaded question with a very subjective answer.

Yook, IMO the Civ3 single player experience gets somewhat more fun with a PTW add-on. More challenging AI, some nice mods, and some few more units and civs. But it's not enough to call it Civ4.

Anyway... Infogrames deserves a lawsuit for this kind of suspicious distribution.

NOTE: If panag is right about those computer shops, I might have to correct myself from my previous post, since I might posess the US version without knowing it. The container does not say anything about it. As I said, the US patch actually worked, (!?) and I bought PTW in a small shop in Norway......

Uh, can't remember the image... I think so?

                  [Edit]
No... It's the european box with a map on it.

So why do they say "ATTENTION: This patch is only for the US version." when it actually works ? Something fishy going on here...

I will not spend money on an expansion that provides an experience that should have been available from the first. I don't do that for any other genre or game, and Civ3 is no different.

So, I guess my question boils down to, does the 1.29f patch make Civ3 a worthwhile game, finally? And, frankly, none of you can answer that question for me.

*grin* Looks like I have an excuse to re-install and check it out myself. Yay!

Armwrestling box for US version, and some sort of map of the world (I think, don't know for sure) for European version.

So....If I understand this correctly - Player1, StatusPerfect, and PlagueRat all have the European version of PTW, and the latest U.S. only version patch actually works on their programs?!? If this is, in fact, true; then the entire basis of the release of a "U.S. version only" patch makes one wonder, to say the least.

If this is the case then I have to spank myself for being too gullible. It simply didn't occur to me that the us-patch would work on an eu-version of the game. I even have a test-system where it is safe to try it I can't try this until monday though

Actually, I have American "wrestling box".
                                (bough the game abroad)

                                P.S.
Maybe second "reprint" of US version has same box as European version?
