  • Civ 3 vs PTW

I have the original Civ 3 game and now wish to play online. Do I just get hold of a copy of PTW from my local retailer (is this still sold seperate from the whole game or do i need to shell out another £29.00 or so?).

If I can just update my original game do I need any patches?

If you have any advice re Multiplayer / online play I'd by very grateful.

    Thanks - Barley.

Barley, you'll need to buy the Play the World expansion to be able to play MP. There should be a patch coming out soon, so you're in luck: your MP experience should be okay.

For MP tips, etc. check out the Play the World forum or the Multiplayer forum here at 'Poly.

If I were you I'd wait a little bit, until word gets around about the next patch, which could be out any day now. If you're interested in MP, you might be disappointed in PTW out of the box. Apparently the MP doesn't work all that well. The next patch is supposed to fix all the remaining problems with it.

However, the SP does have some good points in PTW, so you might be pleased enough to overlook the MP problems for the time being.

From what I have heard, I would not buy PTW for online playing--YET.
Wait until a patch to 1.14 is out and has received good reviews.

However, I think PTW is worth it for single player enhancements.

I agree. PTW pays itself just for the new traits in single player game, IMO.

I would get it in a heartbeat for the advanced single player and more civs

But then there's the matter of civ v. family time and well...I lose.

I think getting PTW sets a dangerous precedent. If it's successful, PTW will cause other game designers to release crappy half-baked versions of games and then at some later point release an additional game which completes the initial crappy game. And laughing all the way to the bank.

I paid 500 SEK (~$60) and I'll be damned if I'm going to cough up another 300 kronor for PTW, which should have been the initial release.

heh PtW only just been fixed to working version? Did they ever implement my suggestion to have a different icon for airport once you've used it that turn?

That already happens with RPG books, like Storyteller's Vampire. Just a good start, with a lot of "mistery" - answered in future releases, which come, of course, with more "misteries". These are responded in even further "optional" (and you know how "optional" it is...) future material.

"Damn industry, damn capitalism. The system s*cks big time. "

The saying of the little utopic anarchist, which sometimes seems fair.

Another good example of this is Micro$oft Window$.
