    Could you just help me and tell me how the combats in Civ3 are calculated.

    Has an attack 1 vs. 4 defense the same chances to win as att. 2 vs. 5 def. or 2 vs. 8?

      Read the links, but the short answer is that 1:4 equals 2:8. But note that the defender will always have some positive modifier. The minimum is 10% for defending on plains etc. So an 4 defense unit is in effect everything from 4.4 to somewhere around 10 in effective defense.
