  • Is this a good idea.

I'm fed up with English UU.

I was thinking of modding it so everyone has the MOW and give Engalnd the ironclad as its UU

I don't do graphics and files, I can only use the basic editor.

    Will this unbaalnce the game
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

Hard to say. I got fed up with frigates struggling to sink galleons so I changed frigates to 3.2.4 and removed bombardment, changed MOW to 4.3.4 (with bombardment), moved ironclads to Industrialisation and made them 6.4.4.

That all seems to work OK and makes the MOW significantly better than the unit it replaces (which is probably what you are looking for).

I changed it the ironclad, and found it did unbalnce the game. The Ai hardley ever builds naval units anyway.

Most surprising; I suck at timing the building of naval units, and normally I spend turns and turns until I get naval supremacy; the AI likes to build naval units in my games.

Well, not quite, it depends on the game and/or on the age.

I've seen the AI build fleets of caravels - 20 or so ships (visible after I install a spy) and galleys.

Having said that, I've NEVER seen the AI build a carrier.

I play with continents on standard maps and move between building and war so my games go into the modern age. The AI certainly does build carriers and uses them. It also escorts them with battleships.

I only build a few frigates/ironclads and wait for combustion to really expand my navy. I have certainly seen the AI build 8 or 9 battleships plus a few other naval units.

Oh, they build them alright. I think it has to do with how long the game lasts and whether the AI is still competitive in the late game.

I've been nuked enough times too tell you that they, in fact, do build them.

If your lone destroyer or cruiser suddenly gets bombed out of nowhere in the middle of the ocean, trust me, it's a carrier!

You should delay the Ironclad to a later tech so Frigates and MoWs become useful. You could also forbid th Ironclad to cross ocean.
The difference between industrial society and information society:
In an industrial society you take a shower when you have come home from work.
In an information society you take a shower before leaving for work.

I would actually suggest that, in order to keep the Frigate useful, for longer, you can do so both by slightly delaying the advent of the Ironclad, and by setting the movement cost of non-coastal tiles to more than 1. Then, I would give the Frigate the Ignore movement cost ability, thus keeping the frigate relevent by making it one of the sole combat vessels which can operate effectively on the high seas! In addition, you might want to introduce an earlier version of the battleship, which is faster and more effective than Frigates (and cheaper than a normal battleship), about the early to mid Indutrial age
Anyway, just some things to consider.

                        Yours,
