I hope you do not have to conquer every city in a civ to win. It is unrealistic and stupid.I think the Capital and a certain number of cities would do or perhaps if the civ goes below certain minimums.
    Any ideas ?

The three modes of victory presented so far are Combat Victory (which will involve total eradication), Space Race victory, which will involve the Space Race as per usual, and one form of victory you might like: "UN Victory". In Alpha Centauri this worked by making the player able to win if he could bribe/coerce/dominate his fellow players enough to vote him supreme ruler. Or if he was so dominant that he had more votes than all others combined in the "Planetary Council".

Perhaps the UN victory works differently, though. Because each county only has one vote in the UN (in R/L, that is), bullying might not work anymore. I hope that the prequisites for the UN victory include a certain time period of peaceful coexistance with all other countries...

If you're thinking of having cities (or an entire civ) surrender before they're totally wiped out, Roalan, you might be interested in looking at this thread: 'Surrender' options in Civ3?. There was quite a lot of discussion there about demanding and offering total or partial surrender, mainly for the reason you've stated here, i.e. that it really becomes tedious to have to wipe out every last city before a civ is truly 'conquered'.

        -Fly into Space
        -Atain a certain cultural rating
        -UN
-And some sort of corporate thingy

I've always liked the Science victory types. They appeal to me so much.

Pretty sure that Firaxis has at least mentioned a culture way to win and there should be some way to win through science and corporate or economic victory way.

Diplomatic victory should change. How do you get other nations to vote for you, especially in multiplayer if that means they lose. The game instead should have some way to win by dominating all nations of the world through diplomatic channels. Control through diplomacy is the ultimate position to be in.

                  I have two new ideas:

Race to Space - who gets to Alpha centauri first win.

Meteor - in a determined year (or after a determined technology) a message appears: a meteor is coming to earth. The race who destroy it will win or could be allianced civs working together to build a super weapon -some civs build missiles another the fuel pods, etc - that way all civs all civs woul rush to alliace with each other. if the asteroid is destroyed everybody (allianced) wins but if the asteroid collides with earth everybody looses.

Pedrun: The space victory was in civ2 and something very similar will be in civ3. I think the meteor idea is a bit far-fetched. I think we should stay a little closer to the present, since we obviously can't predict what the future (even the near future) will be like.
