Can I turn off the palace view?

I'm getting tired of building the palace - I mean the graphic candy, not the city improvement. Can I turn it of in some way?

The difference between industrial society and information society:
In an industrial society you take a shower when you have come home from work.
In an information society you take a shower before leaving for work.

Press escape each time the opportunity to add to the palace comes up, is what I do.

It will stop soon if you do not choose you upgrade. I wish you could just disable it in the preferences.
