Which civ I and civ2 units would you like to see come back for civ3. I would personally like to have the paratrooper and the helicopter.

I don't think there is a unit from a previous civ (non-ctp) that I don't want to see in civ 3. I really hope they add a lot more units as well and slow down the research pace so that it is possible to use the units more before they become obsolete. I always wanted more time to use the modern units too, as modern warefare is the most complex and interesting (hopefully medieval and ancient warefare will be more interesting in civ 3).

The thing with civ2 though was that you didnt want to waste your resorces on building warriors when the next turn you'll get phalanxs. Another thing which happened was that there was a part of the game which you couldnt win when you attaacked. It was as soon as some1 invented conscription, the riflemen were unbeatle by the dragoons or cavalry. There was no artillery, only cannon, and if you attacked with a riflemen, you always lost. They have to fic it so that there is no such age like that, or if there is, then make it with turn of the 20th century tech.

One way to allow use of units, and not get caught in the mind set "I won't build phalanxes, 'cause soon I'll have pikemen', is to allow all civs to either upgrade or auto-upgrade units... I hate seeing charitots run around in the modern day!

In Civ2, I always though, I'm not going to build an army until the modern age because otherwise I won't get to use it!! For some reason or another, CTP2 catpured ancient combat well - it was possible to raise an army of archers and hopolites and use them in campeign before they got out of date.

The auto update can work something like this

Veteran pikemen, upgraded to muskateer lose there "veteran-ness"
Normal pikemen, upgraded to muskaterr lose some hit points

I think that Ctp2s way worked because of the possibility of stacking units. More "weak" units stacked together could still beat a few new ones.

I woundn't advocate the loss of veteran status... but I do like the idea of losing hit points after an "upgrade", thus you'll need a bit of time to "train" a unit back to "100%".
