  • Whats new with Civ3?

I've been away from the game for a while and after reading a cool Tom Clancy book and enduring the interminable wait of Moo3, I decided to try and rule the world again.

Are there any must have utilities/mods/anything anyone would recommend?

Make sure you have the most up-to-date patch... 1.29 for basic Civ3, and 1.14 for PTW.

      Back for more punishment, huh?

The big news since you were gone is that PTW was, as many predicted, filled with bugs, needed patches, and the Multi-Player didn't work!! Some minor Single Player improvements (superficial ones) were added with PTW. All that for "just" thirty bucks!! Typical of Firaxis.

      Why not try Europa Universalis?

Well I was hoping to hear about great mods and tweaks and maps. The patches have fixed so much with the editor, has anyone done anything significant with it?
        Are scenarios still not doable?

Do not listen too much to the poster above you.
Firaxis didn't create a game to fulfill he personnal wishes, so now he's just trying to ruin the fun for the rest of us.

That depends on what you mean by scenarios. There's still no events scripting, if that's what you're after. There's lots of other possibilities though, enough that I'm not inclined right now to list them all.

I'm not quite aquainted with scenario building in Civ3, but the editor in v1.29 and in PTW are a great improvement over the original version. I couldn't believe there wasn't a zoom function in the original, making large maps practically impossible to design. What the hell were Firaxis thinking??? Thank heavens they corrected this very serious omission.

Anyway, give the editor in v1.29 and/or PTW a try, it is much better.

I dont really care about the editor, myself. I just want to play the game. Hasnt anyone put the editor to good use though? or made their own modifications without it, to good results. I know theres lots of little things, I was just hoping to hear about few of the best, I guess there arent any.

besides all the stuff mentioned abovew, I think it's crucial to download certain grpahics files, like thinner roads, but most importantly tiny emoticons next to your people in the luxury page. With a city of size 28 and trying to micromanage the happiness it's impossible to see how many more unhappy people there are than happy people with this. It baffles me that it was not icluded in PTW because it's as old as hell.

Have you been to the "Civ3-Files" forum? You'll find a lot of interesting things in there.
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

Double Your Pleasure is a great mod, IMO, though it entirely changes the game. Completely different CSA's, tech trees, buildings, units, etc.

If you're looking for any graphics mods, go for anything done by Sn00py. There's also some interesting things being done over in CivFanatics with multi-unit graphics. Nothing's been posted yet, but it's greating a lot of excitement. Here's a link:

Hey Willem, that's the second time you posted that link. Do you have info on it?
I started reading the first pages, but then noticed it's more then 20 pages long , call me lazy, but I'm not gonna do that.

You can't download them yet, can you? They look absolutely great.

Yes, it is rather long isn't it? And it's only been up for a very short time! I don't think I've ever seen a thread fill up so fast. Most of it is just people saying how good they look though.

As to your question, not they aren't available yet. There's going to be a seperate thread for them in the Unit Graphics forum, much like the current Unit Library. Just keep checking there, I don't think it will be to much longer before we start seeing them.

There's also going to be a utility available so that people can create their own, in conjunction with Flicster. Someone named Steph is working on that. He's going to have scads of formations available in his tool.
