I'm definitely a supporter of the quotes w/tech advances cause. For one thing, it was a great atmosphere builder. You really felt like your society was advancing.

And I remember thinking, as soon as I played my first SMAC game, how cool it would be to implement those sort of quotes for Civ 2, using voice actors to read pertinent quotations from the great books of history.

(And if you manage to snag a voice actor with genuine celebrity, so much the better...)
"Harel didn't replay. He just stood there, with his friend, transfixed by the brown balls."

Well picked quotes, Rollo! I'm impressed at the selection, except maybe the Marx one which is a bit cliché. You should post in the OT.

The Wheel: Hmm... Now I'll have to invent the Cart and domesticate two horses.

Sorry for the rotten joke. I only have a faint recollection of what smac's quotes were like, but I think this is a nice idea.

        $RPLC1. Do you care^

_'No, we do not need $RPLC1.'^
        _'OK, let's exchange knowledge.'

In SMAC I always liked "It is every citizen's duty to go into the tanks..." when you built the first recycling tank. Chairman Yang sounds so reasonable.

I like the idea, it adds some feel to SMAC, the sense that you're 'doing something', a sense of accomplishment part way through the game.

"Treat each day as if it were your last. Eventually, you'll be right."
Rule 37: "There is no 'overkill'. There is only 'open fire' and 'I need to reload'."

It is a great idea! But I will leave it up to Sid to determine the Quotes. You can't keep everyone completly happy.
