Can we have hope/fear for a fourth official version of Civilization released in a few years?
It should be in 2006, because there seems to be a new Civ game every five years.
The difference between industrial society and information society:
In an industrial society you take a shower when you have come home from work.
In an information society you take a shower before leaving for work.
No, Civ II was out in 1995 or so, so its been about 7 years from the final version or so.
I was expecting Alpha Centauri II, to come out, since it does not support a Celeron processor. I have to dig out my old, old, computer with a 133mH processor to play that game now, and it needs a new L2 cache, so it really will be slow.
I rather like having Alpha Centauri II, to play.
Civ III will probably just be ending by 2006 with multiplayer, a faster Internet, and increases in Civilization (the real one) if everything does not go to H*ll.
I am pretty sure that Civ 2 came in 1996. Civ 3 came in 2001.

Got an e-mail from Firaxis since I asked them a support question for Alpha Centauri, but found the answer here.
There is a compability patch out for Windows2000/XP, but so far I can or don't have to use it!!
They also said there is no plans for Alpha Centauri II right now, since the publisher seems to own everything about any game they have done.
But the original game works once pass the CPU processor not supported error message, which can be handled by one line in the Alpha Centauri.Ini file.
Works even better, then it did before.
Oh, the X-COM Apocalyse!!
Well, sometimes old games are good to remember!!
Been busy for awhile so not much time to actually play something called a game. So I am glad that it still works, so far, but if needed that patch:
SMAC_Win2000&XP_Compatibility_Update_v1[2].03f.exe
can be downloaded from www.firaxis.com and used and installed or uninstalled for both Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire.
Well if they are working on Civ IV I hope they get rid of the cultural defection of cities. I think it would be a better system if the end result of culture was migration. The city with the higher culture of the 2 opposing cities could have a chance to take one citizen from the other city as an immigrant. It could be done immediately or as a citizen unit that travels from the one city to the other. If a citizen unit were used it could even work as refugee during wars, fleeing captured cities.
I'd like to see espionage be developed a little more, in it's Civ III form I almost never use it due to the extreme cost of conducting it.
