Major falling back

has anybody been pushed into a war that they stand very little chance of winning, and have lost quite a few citys?

I want to know what you've done to stop the enemy getting any further?

Have you done anything like destroyed roads and bridges to prevent them advancing so fast?

hasn't been proven, but I would recommend making a full-on offensive (screw defense) the AI seems to want peace when it's on the defense, and razing cities seems to be more affective for me. You may lose a few cities, but...

I don't see what slowing them down would be...

My other guess would be try and watch where they attack, and risk putting most units to guarding that area...

slowing them down means you can find out where the newest offensive is and begin skirmishing them by sending some offensive units against their offense!

point taken... all of that pillaging would take quite a few units (depending on boarder) to be done in any decent amount of time...

You could make preperations such as doing it 1 citys behind the front line, and you could leave some squares to funnel your untis through and then pillage them.

I bet it would work in some scenarios!

How big is your border and/or is this an exact situation you have or just hypothetical?

well, its a scenario that i mite end up coming accross prity soon, i got ***** ass france next to me! I'm the biggest civ but just like real life Britain its all spread about, i've only just recently begun to get a large chunk of land and its right next to france.

I'm at war with ***** ass big and aggressive America and i think France mite begin to pick on me, but then again tiny india and tiny italy have begun to pick on America cuz of some recent successes on the continent that france is on!

by italy do you mean Rome?
by "pick on" do you mean war?

is America #2? I wouldn't recommend a war on two fronts... maybe try and make peace with America or get some alliance going with France, or just prevent them from going to war? Do they have any neighbors?

Nope, they're both mega big, me, italy, india and America all have islands, but France has a ***** ass segment of a meritime world spliting continent, it makes a real hard obsticle to when you want to wage war.

6. China (2 citys)
7. Greece and Russia (1 1square island city)

Me and America just had a long campaign against Egypt, france was helping but pulled out. I managed to quickly get a foot hold on the continent, and then slowly worked my way through. America got a tiny foot hold after a load of bombardment, but then lost it, they took another foot hold and then got their old one back, by now i'd take over all of Egypts industreil sectors, so America was coming up against nothing really by then.

Heck yeah...LOL. In fact it happens to me alot. Anyway, start production of defense units. Leave some in your cities and then when you get enough, start moving them out into enemy territory. Just keep moving them and every chance you get pillage, just pillage everything you can. Best is the roads which they are using to travel with their armies. Trust me armies of defense units will definitely slow the enemy attacks down. If you can put some artillery with a few of them and move it in along with the units. But if you are far behind in tech they still may end up running you over. You can slow them down though. Get the cheap defense units and many of them.

by homeland size ranking, do you mean total or just in that area?

and Egypt is destroyed, right?

so... you're gonna be fighting #1 and #2?

I don't know how the AI reacts to a web of MPP...
how do they other civs think of you?

It occasionally happens when I'm the civ in the middle of the land mass. My standard plan is to kill of some of the wimpy neighbours (so there is less border and temptation to tresspass) and plot revenge to get my cities back.

But then again all cities are mine
All gold is mine, all resources are mine.
That wierd barbs seem to think it's theirs is a temporary matter.
