Windowed. You've got to be able to do other things in between turns.

Pardon me, but I believe that a windowed game uses more system resources than a non-windowed game. Though, I don't have any information to support this fact, I've had this problem with other games. That is why the player should have a choice to either have a windowed or non-windowed game. Which do you prefer? Ease of doing other tasks while playing civ, or a speedier, more stable game. The player should decide.

P.S. If someone could successfully find some proof about this on the Internet and post it in this thread with a link to it that would be great! Thanks.

response on the same issue in the ctp2 forum from Pyaray, a ctp2 developer
        quote:

The problem with running in Windowed mode as oppossed to full screen, is that animations are VERY slow. We do actually use quite a few animations in our game. There were no animations in Civ2, and that's why it could be a Windowed game. I seriuosly doubt Civ3 will be that way, although obviously I don't know for certain

markg Just compare CTP 2 to Sudden strike, red alert 2,starcraft or TA. All those games have 4+ players moving 100's of units at once. The only real lag in those games is caused by the network in multiplayer... Anyways SMAC and CTP 2 only allow you to move 1 unit at a time, therefor the effects of animations should be insignificant. The battle sceens in CTP 2 are nothing compared to a 100 unit army clashing with another 100 unit army in either TA or startcraft

I think the point has been made here, that there isn't a single person who plays civ2 online that wants to see civ 3 played full screen. That is because people get bored to death waiting between turns, and at the same time your cut off from doing anything else on your computer.

I can't belive everyone ignored Markos' quote - I thought all you guys wanted pretty little animations in the game - looks like windowed will be unsuitable for that!

And as to the topic - I think the game should be full screen. (And that was before reading Markos' post.)

I definitly want it to be windowed. I think I would have played SMAC more if I had been able to do other things between turns.
Even though SMAC wasn't windowed as such, it still ran as though it was. You could still use other programs while playing - I use icq in the EOT's. But I think you might need to call up the taskbar by a ctrl+esc or use alt-tab or something...

I noticed that too... SMAC works very good eith other games.
                  I think it's becasue it doesn't use Direct-X etc.
I hate when some one ICQs me during a MP game and a game crushes.

                  WINDOWED!!! WINDOWED!!! WINDOWED!!!

                      Fullscreen.

It isn't that difficult to alt+tab.

Shouldn't it be possible to option this. I have seen games (a few years old, but still) that you can run in either fullscreen or windowed modes.

I think what is meant by "full screen" would be that is would be impossible to multitask - like in Starcraft. Otherwise the answer to the questionwould be obvious!

Ultra, what are you talking about? You can ALt+Tab out of starcraft. I don't think I have found a game yet that you can't alt+tab out of.

                            What the?
Be back soon to verify the veracity of that information... if SC is still installed.

edit: Damn it's no longer installed. But I seem to recall that SC wouldn't be alt-tabbed out of unless you access the map editor from the main screen.

Oh well in that case than the debate on full screen or not has a forgone conclusion, then.
