  • Army Corps of Engineers

    Hi,
This is a sugestion for a new unit type: The Army Engineer. Can build Roads, Bridges, Frotifications and Airbases (no Irrigation and Farms) and has the same fighting capabilities as a infantry unit (as Riflemen?). This should be used to help your conquest campaigns.

How about simplifying the idea even more - allow settlers/engineers to have an upgrade of attack and armour (via the unit workshop or just as a new unit).

By the way, I think having bridges would be too much micromanagement.

There is also an another possibility: allow for military units (maybe only for modern ones, I don't know) to build roads, bridges and fortifications (but no railroads), at the speed of a settler unit.

This way, if you want to build quickly, you must risk your engineers. If there is no such a rush, or you don't want to risk, use your military units to build at a slower speed.

          But I don't like bridges.

Well, nobody says that bridges have to be specifically built. Building roads on rivers should just make bridges. Unless you mean crossing ocean tiles?

About one and half month ago I've done a few suggestion in this direction. Since I'm not able to use the HTML-mode I'll give you the name of the thread Rivers & Estuaries & bridgebuilding

Building bridges across ocean is a bit far-fetched, methinks.

Build a bridge, like I suggested many moons before, like the Golden Gate, over one to two (at most) ocean spaces; you must rate ocean depth to do this; with an 'Engineer' upgraded settler or addition to settler.

                  -Advanced Settler (Modern)
                  -Engineer (Modern)

But a bridge over 1 or 2 squares would still be hundreds of miles long. Pretty unrealistic and it would hurt gameplay unless it is a modern advance.

If you increased the size of the map, this would not be a problem.
                      i.e.: squares="25-50 miles"
