Can any of you Oldies give me a GOOD idea on what leader units will be like in civ3?? I hope they are not just "leader" units, I hope there are a variation, like historical, like General Eisenhower, and fictional. And also, I would like to be able to create my own leaders (they would have to take a while to build, and caust alot!), and be able to name them.

I very much dislike the concept of leaders, though if I'm not mistaken, they're already in the game.

You'll have to ask Firaxis. And they ain't talkin'.
Hopefully "leaders" will have minor effects overall. Slight increases in areas they work in, whether they be governors or military generals. They could also have penalties in 1 or 2 areas, and be around for only a limited duration.I'm consitently stupid- Japher

Supposedly according to civ 'leader' events are going to be in the
game... however I, like Ultra, am against it because it is too abstact
and belongs more in a game like Master of Magic or Heroes of Might and Magic.

They only said that there will be armies and leaders in Civ3, but didn't say anything about how they will be like.
I think there are 2 poosibilities:
1. "Real" leaders, I mean real persons (some kind of heroes, like Napoleon or Hannibal. I'd like to say that the term "heroes" some people use for leaders, is not a good one, because they are not MoM like heroes).
We have for real leaders several possibilities too: only military leaders, with bonuses for military units, or also scientific, economic, governors or other kind of leaders, with bonuses in their domain. The real leaders should be around only for a limited duration.
2. Military leaders, representing the high-command of an army. They will be units, you can build them, lose them in battle, disband them, ... I think that in order to build a leader the city should have a city improvement called "military academy" or something. The leaders will be used to form and commannd an army (stack).
Beeing units, they will have unlimited duration (at least, until your enemy kills them )
The detailed description of this kind of leaders you can find here , wrote by ATa, sent to Firaxis as part of the Essetial Civ3 List.
Let's vote. What kind of leaders do you want? (if any?)

For military units, maybe they will do it similar like in PG3 (BTW, I think PanzerGeneral2 was a MUCH better game). There, a unit gets its quality from the leader it has. In civ, this could be translated in the unit rank (Vetran or not) and the unit abilities (+/- attack/defense points, movement point etc). You could probably tranfer one leader from one unit to another unit, on a different section of the front, this way you would transfer the capabilities of one unit to another unit. The units would still have their basic capabilities (attack/defense/movement points) but they could be enhanced by the military leader in command of the unit (or units group).

I want "leader" units to be several different types, one would be military, they would gather, lead, and give bonuses to armies they were with. maybe something like every unit that is in an army with a leader/general is +1 to attack, but nothing more complicated then that.
There could also be governers, that would govern provences, see the thread on Provinces to know what I mean, and also there could be unique units, like historical units.
