  • River/Irrigation bug?

I just started playing a game using Marla Singer's world map. My civ started at the Iraq starting square. When I tried to irrigate one of the squares next to the rivers it wouldn't let me. I checked all the squares next to the rivers in that area and found several squares that would not let me irrigate even though they were touching one or two rivers. Not only would they not allow irrigation without touching another irrigated square, they also did not get the commerce bonus for being next to a river. Has anyone else come across this bug?

Just because a tile looks like it may be beside a river doesn't really mean it is. This is not a bug so much as how the tile set draws rivers. Post a screen shot.

All squares that should get the river commerce bonus and should allow irrigation, but don't, I've marked with an X.

Looks like a bug to me, but Marla's map is fine AFAIK. Just loaded it up into the editor and the flood plains are the flood plains and not desert.

The desert squares touching the river are indeed flood plain, but they just don't get the commerce bonus and I can't irrigate them if they don't touch another irrigated square.

What version of Civ are you playing with?

I think this is a known bug with certain player-made maps -- particularly older maps under previous versions of the editor (and I think I've seen threads about this very same problem on the very same map but with a different map location). In some cases, one side of the river is "on a river" and the other side (confirmed by the river movement penalty) is "not on a river."

This river anomoly is not very common whne it has been seen.

Are we sure that this is not the "I'm in Despotism and I don't recognize the impact" bug??

I agree with Catt, its a bug I've heard about before that comes from player made maps.

Notice that the buggy squares are of two special kinds: Those that are barely touching the river on a corner (is it really sure that these should be next-to-river squares?), and those that are next to two rivers. For some reason, squares next to two rivers doesn't function correctly on some player made maps.
