AMD Duron 900 MHz, 256 MB RAM, S3 Savage4 16 MB video, Win Me.

Works fine on standard maps and 8 civs. Don't know for huge maps and 16 civs 'cause I play with standard settings.

I have a P3, 550MHz with 128MB RAM, it works fine but slows down in the end-game. I suspect that a week graphic-card(AIT rage lt 8MB(!)) is a bottleneck. I added another 128MB RAM and it helped some, not much though.

HP pavilion 7935 1.3GHz, 30GB HD, 384MB, but NO AGP slot so animations are sllooww. I do NOT like having to turn off animations for battles!

G4 iMac (15" screen) 800MHz, 768MB, 60GB HD, NVDA GeForce 2MX. The video speed about makes up for its slower processor speed compared to the HP.

He probably just does graphic arts & video (the Mac specialties). With that much RAM he can probably have all the supporting apps open at once.

I have a Celeron 650 laptop, with 384MB RAM (running Win2000). Actually before I only had 128MB of RAM, and although it handled 140x140 maps with 12 players very well, but the slowdown was tremendous for 256x256 maps with 16 civs - waiting times were upto 40-50 minutes (read a book a browse the net during that!). However now with the recent upgrade, I started a PTW game on 300x300 map with 24 players, and currently I'm in late ancient age (but with most of the map already covered with cities) and waiting time is about 90 secs. However this with about 5 windows of IE6 open, Excel, Outlook, WinAmp playing and maybe other software and while the civ turns are happening, task switching is instantaneous.

I guess for a fairer comparison I should start a more reasonable game, but I just want to see where the limit of my upgraded computer is!

I agree, Civ 3 and the editor are quite a bit more efficient. Especially the editor. No longer does my 1.6 gHz sit for 5 seconds every time I put a road down.

There is one key reason I have 1.5 gig of RAM. because I can!!! I bought 2 512m sticks back when Ram was in the bargain basement before it went back up and then back down again. (I guess its pretty cheap again now? I wouldn't know, all my machines are maxed out ) I also play on a tiBook 800 with 768m RAM. On bigger maps, (especially huge) it can lag a bit.

BTW Yes, I use my mac for all that "memory intesive" stuff . ie, CIV3
