  • High Scores

    Not sure if I'm in the right place to do this, but I DO have a question that I haven't been able to find an answer for ANYWHERE in the Apolyton site, and this IS an FAQ thread, right? Here's my question:

    Can I erase my high scores? Can I clear them all with one fell swoop, can I pick which ones to erase, or am I simply stuck with the same list I've had since I first started playing the game a year ago?

    Thanks for any help, and sorry if I sent this post to the wrong place!

    You can delete the file and it will make a new one. I would suggest you copy it off or rename it. The can be viewed and you can see the scores offline.

      What file? I'm a novice in the truest sense, can you be exactly specific as to how I might do it and how risky it is? Will it enable me to delete just the scores I want to, or will it remove every score in there?

        HighScores.cv3
        You can right click and select rename and give it name such as Highscores.3vc. This makes it easy to find if something goes wrong or you wish to look at it later. The game will create a new file that will be empty. It will of course take all score away. To view it you may need an editor that can handle any format. It is just short line for each game recorded and is not hard to figure out.

          OK - thanks! I'll try it.

            The reason I looked at it was when the game came out I wanted to see what I played after a few games, but did not wan to have to use the game itself. It did not contain all the info I wanted, but it did have the level of the game and a few other things. Have fun.

              You can also edit this file, for example, if you have two entries for the same game (playing the final turn twice) you can delete one of them.

                THAT'S what I want to do! Tell me how to remove ONLY the scores I don't want anymore!! You know how when you're experimenting, you'll try anything once? That's what I did. I created my own map that had ONLY mountains on it, started a game, watched all the other civs kill themselves (can't build cities on mountains, right? ) - now I've got a 36,000 point high score!

                Anyway, if you could take me through the steps like I'm a 5-year old, I'd REALLY appreciate it.

                PS - Anyone out there live in the Orlando area? I'd like to watch someone ELSE play for once - maybe I'd learn something!

                  allow me: take your favorite text editor (wordpad works well) and open the HighScores.cv3 file. Delete the entire line of the scores you don't want. Then save the file.

                  ex (getting rid of a Mao score).

                  before:

                  Joan_d'Arc 10 1934 2 4 1
                  Mao 7 2207 2 4 1
                  Catherine 6 910 2 3 0

                  after:

                  Joan_d'Arc 10 1934 2 4 1
                  Catherine 6 910 2 3 0

                  now save the file.

                    ALl this help is GREAT!! Thanks, guys! One last question (I think):

                    I have printed up the HighScores.cv3 file so I can pick out the ones I don't want, but am unsure of the other numbers around the score itself. ANyone care to explain what they mean/are?

                      I forget the layout, but here is what I remember:
                      civname A nnnnn B C D
                      A = the civ race counting from the list shown in the hall of fame. That is 22 would be Arabs.
                      B (don't know as I do not have enough to tell, I think it is level counting Chief as 0.
                      C = type of vic/loss
                      D = (don't know

                        vmxa's right
                        B is level chieftain = 0..diety = 5
                        D is 1 for victory, 0 for defeat.
                        of course nnnnn is for the score

                        might be too late to mention this, but always make a backup before editing. you never know if it'll work correclty or not.
