HAs anybody created a mod or anything that increases the number of city names? I am so tired of seeing New "blah-blah" for the Indians and Germans....

Just go into the editor under Civilizations. You can add more names there.

IIRC, there was a .bic file in the files forum, but maybe it was for the old patch. More annoying than "New Something" I found "Something 2"

I enjoy renaming the "New Somethings" and "Something 2's". I've used Duckburg, East Epilstop, things like that. As Romans I'm fond of Nauseum. Sometimes I go for my favorite small town names - Tick Bite (NC), Gnaw Bone (IN), Intercourse (PA).

Let's face it, there are some long stretches in Civ 3 with not much happening, and your mind wanders.

You can copy and paste city names into the editor ... no need to type in 800 city names ...
None, Sedentary, Roving, Restless, Raging ... damn, is that all? Where's the "massive waves of barbarians that can wipe out your civilisation" setting?

I choose custom names for each new city based on terrain features or humour so that can better remember where they are. They can be called things like Twin Peaks, Gold Fish, East Bay, Wild Horse, Deep Forest, Deerwood or Iron Rapids. Sometimes I name them in Swedish or give them offensive names that the bad language filter of Apolyon would cut out, like ****, ***** or ****.

One of the joys of CIV1 and CIV2 was the possibility to custom name both your head of state, civilisation and cities. I miss that in CIV3. I often played CIV2 as Brüssel Kohl of the Preussians or Cunnulingus of the Perversians. Can you do such things in multiplayer PtW?

I think you can chance your name and stuff when you click the description button under the leaderhead when starting a game. Or something. I've played as the Asswhuppatanians, and Finns, naturally...

Tattila is right, you must click under the leaderhead. The new name even remains if you restart.

wilbill and olaf, yes I like to rename my own cities, too. I think Mkinsers point is the names of the AI cities. Once on a huge map there was even Paris 4!

Never gotten to a "City 4". Named one "Notanuther City" on huge map once.

There are a number of city naming threads in the Creation forum and a couple of files (.bic and possibly .xls) with expanded lists in the Files forum.

As mentioned above, you can develop a list of names, or grab someone else's, and paste it into your own custom .bic file.

                        Det har jag inte alls!

In a game that takes 30-50 hours to win, renaming perhaps 100 cities is a very minor part of the total playtime.

SanPellegrino, I know that was the point of the starter, but I regard it as a minor problem. It is easy to rename captured cities too. "Mugabeville" is just a better name than "Bapedi 3".
