  • ? about A.I. resources.

Is there a way to know what resources a AI civ has access to? I do look at the map, but sometimes the AI places its cities on top of the resource, so you can't tell. Also, the AI knows where the resources are, on the map, ahead of time and then places its cities accordingly.

The reasoning, is that I am going to war with the AI, and I like to take out the resources first, so I can take them out, without losing a ton of armor.

Press CTRL-SHFT-M and you'll have a view of the known map with all units, tile improvements and cities removed - so resources are easy to spot.

press Strg Alt M for hiding all cities and units.

take a look at the trading window, you see what they have and what they need.

      not very convenient, I know

The size of some of Catt's post, that would be useful.

If it's easier, you can also remove the resources by isolating the capital - that is, removing all roads into the capital. Don't take the capital though. Then they'll be unable to trade resource from one city to another, so only the city which holds the resources can use it.

This can be a very useful tactic if the enemy capital is close to your border.

Using investigate city gives you not only the resouces on their map but the ones they are trading for. Obviously you can stop this by pillaging around the capital or by getting the rest of the AIs on your side.

Of course if you're at war you'll need a spy to do this but it's cheap if they have a small connected city and normally worth it.

just take the city, much easier

btw: isn't an embassy enough to 'investige the city'?

there are several mods which change the resource graphics to make them easier to spot, too - check out the downloads section on this site.

i just discovered the "clear map" option the other day - very cool. it's accessible in the "main menu" (icon next to civilopedia") under map options if you forget the shortcut keys.
