I always play on. It's a challenge to make something out of nothing. Although I was not able to do that today. More often than not I can pull out a victory, but by a very close margin.

I'm not ashamed to say that I restart from pathetic situations. I just don't have the time to waste to play for half an hour before deciding it sucks. Expansionist helps here, those scouts can quiclkly look around. If my start sucks, maybe the 2nd city can be good. or not, then I reset. NO shame.,

I don't really have time to be playing games where I won't stand a chance anyway due to a bad start, so therefore, I always restart.
I want to at the very least be a realistic contender for the position as superpower, so it is important to have good places to farm settlers and workers (particularly when I'm an industrious civ).
Perhaps when I have a bit more time on my hands, I might try a crappy start."Corporation, n, An ingenious device for obtaining individual profit without individual responsibility." -- Ambrose Bierce
"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." -- Benjamin Franklin
"Yes, we did produce a near-perfect republic. But will they keep it? Or will they, in the enjoyment of plenty, lose the memory of freedom? Material abundance without character is the path of destruction." -- Thomas Jefferson

Play on. It is more challenging to win from a bad starting position.
When the conditions are harsh, I like to think that my people are tougher than those banana-eating opponents"The only way to avoid being miserable is not to have enough leisure to wonder whether you are happy or not. "
--George Bernard Shaw
A fast word about oral contraception. I asked a girl to go to bed with me and she said "no".

Well, I ALWAYS stick it out to the bitter end becuase I reckon "Hell, if the real-life Egyptians could make a go of a DESERT, then I can't complain!" .
What surprises me, though, is that no-one has voted for "whines that Civ3 sucks" option, given the number of people who do claim it sucks here on the forum! .
Yours,

I will restart if I get something really terrible, but I'm not one of those people who restarts each game 20 times to get the perfect start.
I usually don't finish my games anyway, when I'm bored with it for whatever reason (I'm obviously winning by miles, or obviously losing badly) I'll restart and try something different. If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

I'll stick with a position unless it's pretty hopeless, i.e. mountains galore surrounding my position. Playing on Emperor whilst starting in the middle of the Amazonian rain forest does make for a testing game indeed so I'll play it out but having to create civilisation from the top of Everest? No thanks

I always play on...ok, almost always, I only restart when I'm english, the terrain has NO influence wheter I restart or not...
I don't give up, even though the risk to lose is 100%...also when playing against humans (Back in the days as I played Settlers 3 online, I always sticked around after I was destroyed...just to see who won the game...Once I even stayed in the game 1 hour after my destruction...This space is empty... or is it?
