I like putting on the Imperial March just as Im rolling hundreds of Modern Armour across my neighbours smoking ruins of what were once (great?) cities.

Actually, thats one thing I hate, its too difficult to capture cities, I always raise, although this woud be considered an atrocity a'la SMAC
The strength and ferocity of a rhinoceros... The speed and agility of a jungle cat... the intelligence of a garden snail.

The UN is great if there is no way you are going to win otherwise. If I am in ascendancy however, I consider it important as a Defensive build. I must get it (and not use it) so I don't LOSE!

I'd prefer to lose than have to endure the "win screen" that is the UN victory. First major flaw I saw in Civ3 and I did not like it one bit. yuck.

I normally disable diplomatic victory for that reason and rely on conquest/domination victory or I might even win by culture this time. 'tis hard on emperor for me with my all out war strategy.

I would prefer to see the UN become mean to force peace, but not a win. The owner could call for it to make peace once. I turn it off.

I do agree with Jaybe that if it is in a game I play, I build it and never call for a vote, but is annoying to have it keep coming up.
