    Has anyone tried this?

I've got it going right now. Quite a fast game. I just wish that they would have compressed the turns as well. In my current game, its 500 bc and I have gunpowder. Are the scores calculated the same way? Obviously the game will be over a lot faster this way, do I get the early victory bonus?

Hmmm. I wonder what acclerated production on a tiny map with 16 civs would do.....

so it accelerates tech rate as well? might be interesting.

I'm not exactly sure what it does. It at least accelerates the production, I'm cranking out units and improvements right and left. Not sure about the science, though it is of course increased due to the rapid expansion. Oh, it also halves (i think) the food requirements for growth. I do believe it doubles science and taxes as well.

Pretty cool to play around with, a quick (relatively) way to play.

I played it once. Found it to be unbalancing against the AI (yes, I know, one game does not a sample make).

I had a completely horrible start location - desert, a few plains, and some distant (5+ tiles away) flood plains. Rather than try to exapnd my empire through REX and growth, I played a pure "rush" strategy. Built a ton of chariots for later upgrade to horsies. Problem was that I built so many so qucikly that I was absolutely unstoppable by the AI civs that shared my landmass. I was attacking in many cases with chariots because: (1) didn't have enough cash for all the upgrades, and (2) I had so frickin' many chariots against the few AI warriors and spearmen. I essentially owned a 4-civ continent (in an 8-civ game) by 1000 BC. Made the later game a bit pointless. I'm sure it deserves another try, but I'll wait until I have a smal window of play time and really want to play a game to conclusion.

It may be a real boon to MP however (which is what I think it was included for).

Hhhm accelerated production sounds rather cool for short, rush games (I haven't tried it) but other than that there seems no point to it. I mean would it really add to the enjoyment of the game?

It means that the game can be played much faster than normal. So if you have limitied time, it is nice.

I agree with Catt that the acc. production isn't handled as well by the AI as it is by me, I can obviously do more with the extra units than they can. May lead to easier earlier victories. But still fun to tinker with.

If you get into the Modern Era (somewhere around 1400 AD), it makes for some incredible wars.

Yeah, as a peaceful player it just got me tons of cash playing accelerated production... all that time on Wealth I think it basically makes the game more tuned towards warmongers or people who are just plain impatient.

All those people who play first person shooters and get bored with Civ3 really fast unless they can kill lots of stuff really fast

I'm sure it was put in so that you can speed up MP games, which may take too long to finish otherwise.

I've played the last couple of games with AP and I like it for the most part. Playing as the industrious French was a lot of fun--made quick work of jungles!

The only thing I don't like is that both games ended in a spaceship launch, because tech progress proceeded faster than I was able to achieve a military victory. I guess I can turn off that victory option, though.

                      Holy maccaroni...

Acc.prod. on Emperor level gave AI huge development in science.
They went ahead of me instantly after game start.
300BC and everyone were impossible to take on.

Neigbouring Frogs had pikemen and knights, and
I had only spearmen and swordsmen. (lots of it)
One city could be taken by my numerous forces,
but the counteroffensie would be really devastating.

I wouldn't recommend it for Emperors!

I think on higher levels there is a huge gap between your tech-rate and the AI tech-rates. The gap gets bigger the higher level.
Acc.prod. seems to widen that gap proportionally. (???)
                        Try it on Emperor!

As I understand it, AP on higher levels gives you an advantage. But on lower levels it allows the AI to be equal to you. That's what I gather from it. And that's why I don't use it b/c I haven't gotten up higher in the levles.

The effect of AP is equal between all players at all levels. It halves the number of shields, tech, and food needed for everything.

Well, just try in Emperor, in the BC epoch... see what happens.
                              It's scares me!
