Does anyone miss the ability to play the game in a window like civ2?

Sometimes I have my tv tuner running on my pc to watch tv (cheaper than buying another tv), and i want to play civ3 while i watch.

anyone else have thoughts on wanting to play civ3 in a window?

Well it won't help for watching tv, but hitting the window key lets you get to the task bar and alt tab will let you switch task. Thats all I need.

Yes, it would be handy to play in a window. Particulalry when it comes to communication in the up-coming multi-player games.

I don't like windowed play. Just press Alt-Tab to switch between programmes.

Occasionally, I wish a windowed mode were available to simplify looking at pieces of a game while I'm writing about it. (That's especially true when I'm trying to copy names of Aztec cities. ). But the rest of the time, I like the full-screen mode fine.

When I asked this question a while ago, the only responses I got were "Why would you want to have Civ3 in a window? Other games use full screen mode." Ugh!

I'm using WinXP (Swedish version) and all too often, when I hit the window key (or sometimes when I hit the F3 key) to get access to the task bar...PANG!!! Program crash... no freeze, no warning, just POOF...no more CivIII.

Doesn't happen all the time and hasn't happened with the latest patch but it's damn annoying.

Yes, that does happen to me sometimes especially when I switch to Window while the AIs are still moving. If I wait for the AIs done with their turns, it's safe for me to switch to Window.

I often have a crash with F3 when I play with a large map, usually right after upgrading units.

Spence & Xar, I used to have a problem with crashing when hitting f3 to enter the military advisory right after saving (which I do pretty much every turn, since my PC is incredibly unstable with Firaxis games). I haven't found it happening a lot since the last patch, but there is something wierd with the military advisor screen.

I ended up changing the order I do things in a turn so that I now access my military advisor screen right after my diplomacy screen. In other words, I hit f4, then click on the military advisor head on the left when done in the diplo screen.

Isn't perfect (I still hit f3 occasionally), but it did stop me from habitually crashing at the start of every turn during my "upkeep".

i had that problem in Counter-Strike ( a half-life mod) and i actually popped out the windows key from my keyboard while playing.

getting civ3 windowed? i don't think you can. I think i tried to ALT+ENTER it, and it didn't go.

using the windows key i can play civ3, edit civ3 and read the news all at once without any problems other than a little slow down. i only use f3 to check out other civs goverment types most of the game so i havent seen any crashes.
