    Your on!
GOTY is slated at $40, not $30 (PTW's price)

That is PART of why I was thinking that it was PTW plus 1.29 (and I still am)!
But it might be just the 1.29 UPDATE and PTW.

      guys, it's simple
they are re-releasing the game for people who do not have it

Seems like an excuse to keep the full price of the game for a little longer.
the only reason for a game to keep it's full price is that it continues to sell(see the Sims)

IG are not idiots to consider customers doublidiots(markgian word #5613) that buy a game at full price cause it has the latest patch included...

Well, before people get too worked up about this, keep in mind that this seems like it's intended to replace the "regular" CivIII product currently on the shelves. Thus, it's not intended to be marketed to, or purchased by, people who already own CivIII. It's just a way of "spicing up" the product to sell it to anyone who doesn't already own it. I don't see anything nefarious about it, as it happens all the time for other products anyway.

Imagine Ford marketing the new 2003 Taurus as the "Car of the Year" and proclaiming that this year it'll come with special wheel covers and racing stripes as standard equipment. It's still the same car as the 2002 model, so if you already own one there's no need to run out and buy another. But if your old Dodge K-Car has finally met it's maker, perhaps the sales pitch will convince you to buy a Ford instead of another Dodge.

Anyway, that's how I see the GOTY edition. It's not for anyone reading these forums, but for the folks who haven't yet already picked up a copy of the game.

Having said *that*, PTY and GOTY are kinda confusing right next to each other. But hopefully our intrepid CivIII player looking for his or her MP expansion pack will be a bit smarter than the average bear (or Florida voter...) and not just blindly grab the wrong box.

I said all that on my original post. Why are people confused?

People who already own the game should not buy GOTY.

You see, I wanted to write "damn game companies", but marketing was so intense in my head...
