    From Avault:

Infogrames is gearing up to release two new Civilization III products at the end of October. We already know about Civilization III: Play The World, the expansion that includes several multiplayer options, eight new civilizations, a full editing suite and new unit sets. Infogrames also will release Civilization III - Game of the Year Edition, which will include the most up-to-date version of the code (1.29f), three new game maps, a keyboard command card, the "Making of Civilization III" video and an excerpt from Prima's Official Strategy Guide.

So the 'Game of the Year Addition' is like the 'Collector's Edition Lite'?
Making the Civ-world a better place (and working up to King) one post at a time....

Unnoficial Infogrames infos. Report from our spy in Bruno Bonnells 'office:

BB:"ok boyz, time to release the final version of Civ 3 at the end of 2002, the beta testing is over and we sold nearly 1 million of beta versions!"

Assistant_1:"shall we sell the complete game for less, since we already made tons of cash on the beta?"

BB:"wtf you are trying to give Infogrames a good rep? Take the door, you are fired."

Assistant_2"so uh, what do we do boss?"

BB:"sell the game in 3 parts , the complete still bugged version, and 2 package with the same stuff but looking different and not bringing anything new to the game. Don't forget some Infogrames Tee shirt in the third package boy!"

      Assistant_2:"what about the price?"

      BB:"40$ each"

Assistant_3: "don't you think it is a bit too much for just a bugged game and 2 patchs?"

      BB:"The door, boy."

Assistant_3:"i got it boss, we need to screw up the player base with unfinished products in order to sell as many extensions as possible, in order to look like we are listening to the player base, but making tons of cash on their back?"

BB: "you will go far boy".

Stay tuned for new reports in the future.

These new maps better be available to the public! (that is, if they're any good). They can't be stupid enough to give the lesser Civ enthusiasts who waited to buy it more stuff than the hardcore/naiave who bought the tin edition . That just rewards patience

Let's just say that I was far more impressed with EA than Infogrames.

I am guessing that the 2003 gold version will have all the stuff in one place and then you will get those maps.

Would that be the same EA that is milking the hell out of the Sims via X-Packs then are releasing a deluxe edition to those who have had the patientce?

I can't stand XP's that are only providing features that could be implemented with a patch, i.e. new civs and units, but The Sims expansions, while a little guilty of that, often offer entirely new ways to play the game. Then again, I'm just a Sims fanboy. Any game where a digital me can make out with Maria Bartiromo every night is good by me

So the "Game of the Year" edition is really nothing but v1.29 instead of v1.07. Well I would hope they wouldn't still be shipping v1.07 to the stores. Allthough a lamenanted keyboard command card would be dang handy.

I can't image many people here need a keyboard command card at this point.

Oh I like the sims too. Hell I wish I had the idea but 5 x-packs :hmm: . That and my point was more about the deluxe edition and compareing it to the Game of the year edition.

If you're looking for expansion packs to computer games, check your local thrift store. Many people seem to buy them without knowing the need the original, and so give them away. I've gotten all of the Sims expansions just a few months after they come out that way.
