  • Where are my units?

The first time I played civ3 I was very pleased to see how easy it was to learn the whereabouts of my troops, just open the military advisor screen, place the mouse on a unit and look at the crosshair on the little map

Somehow this doesn't work anymore. Did it disappear in a patch or have I accidently turned it off myself?

I know you can zoom in on them by right-clicking but I liked the original approach soo much better.

Press the 'c' button to go to the active unit. It's much easier.

'c' will only work on whatever unit is currently active.

What I liked about the mini-map in the military advisor screen was that you could very quickly find the general location of all your units(even the inactive). Very handy when you haven't been playing for some weeks. Also handy when you are upgrading units en masse.

When upgrading 'en masse' choose a unit of the type you want to upgrade (make it active) and press 'shift-u'. Then you can upgrade them all at once.

'shift-u'? Now THAT's what I call useful. Thanks a bunch

It still works for me. Do you have the units on the F3 screen arrayed "by unit" as opposed to "by city" (sorry, obvious question).

It still works for you Fergus? What patch do you have? I have 1.29f

Have to take a real close look at the variuos screens to see if I've missed something. May even reinstall.

Found i, at last. No obscure option or civ3 bug. It's just a buggy graphics-card driver(BTW it made the diplomatic relations go away too).

Dug out my old harddisk(win98) this weekend, it's slow, full and a bit unstable but there is nothing wrong with the graphic card driver. I'm happy to report that Civ3 is back in working order. Now I can find my units again, AND get full info from the diplomatic relations screen.

Thanks Fergus, your reply put my brain back into 'working' mode
