  • Strange bug

OK, this is a strange one.

I was playing as the Persians, in a war with the Romans. I right clicked on one of my spearmen in one of my cities, and got a pop-up, apparently directed to a barbarian unit ( none around ), that said something along the lines of "take me to your leader, soldier!". It goes to the diplomacy screen, where I have the opportunity to make peace with the barbarian leader. His image is in strange colors, sort of "on acid". He has no money, cities, etc. so I simply make peace. I assume this doesn't make any real peace with the barbs, but what happened? Is this a bug, or intentional?

You are playing out of the box Civ3. Please install the patch.

This is a known bug under the out-of-the-box game? Hilarious. I never saw it before my first patch.

Same with me. However it was a big deal. And I think it still lingured with the 1.16f patch. Not sure.

So I can assume it's not intentional. The barb leader sort of looked like the chinese leader, it's difficult to tell. The language of it is so specific (referring to his people as the "barbarian nation, or something along those lines), that I wonder if it was an unimplemented feature.

Do a complete* uninstall and reinstall, then install the patches. I recommend to install each patch in crono order. Even though each patch carries fixes from each prior one, it's safer.

This is an example of why you should save all that you download (and then archive them to CDR).

*This means not just runninng the uninstaller, but deleting the folder manualy after the uninstaller and deleteing the registry entries.

If the problem continues... contact one of the firaxians here and alert them about this.

Also, make you sure you are not playing a game that you STARTED with the out of the box version of civ3.

the save is post 1.29, but pre 1.29 I tried 1.21, but it kept crashing, so I uninstalled and went to 1.17. From there I went to 1.29. Hopefully your fix will work, though I wouldn't mind seeing it again

I had something similar in my present game. I clicked on someone by accident. I don't even which civ the unit belonged to but it gave me that take me to your leader pop-up. I don't think it was a barbarian though. I hit the cancel button though so next time I see that I will try the other choice.

This WAS with 1.29f. Never saw that take to my leader popup before.

Now we know it the barb leader is a from of acid (perhaps the barbs are aliens in reality) and this was a secret message from him to get in contact. Would be interesting to share technologies with them .
