We have done an outstanding job getting dates and information on a wealth of topics! But my goal is for this to be actually used by Firaxis, and to do that, we need to really nail down dates and sources as best we can.

Wonders of the Industrial Age
- Adam Smith's Trading Co.:
Adam Smith lived from 1730 to 1790, and is most famous for The Wealth of Nations from 1776. He never actually owned a "Trading Company"--Hugo Rune
"Adam Smith (1723-90), ECONOMIST: By publishing in 1776 An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith founded the science of political economy. So significant were the effects of this book for the modern world that it has been described as one of the most important ever written. It is referred to in every history of the subject."--Yin( http://www.efr.hw.ac.uk/EDC/edinburg...dam-smith.html ) - Darwin's Voyage:
Darwin's Voyage on the Beagle lasted from 1831-1836--Hugo Rune
"Charles Darwin boarded the H.M.S. Beagle and set sail on 27 December 1831 for an around the world voyage that would last almost five years; the Beagle returned home in 1836, landing at Falmouth, England, on 2nd of October. After his return, he turned to the task of reporting on his findings."--Yin( http://www.library.ucla.edu/librarie...n/darintro.htm ) - Eiffel Tower:
The Eiffel Tower was built in Paris for the World Exhibition in 1889--Hugo Rune
"Nothing remotely like the Eiffel Tower had ever been built; it was twice as high as the dome of St. Peter's in Rome or the Great Pyramid of Giza. In contrast to such older monuments, the tower was erected in only about two years (1887-89), with a small labour force, at slight cost."--Yin( http://www.britannica.com/bcom/eb/ar...2678+1,00.html ) - Issac Newton's College:
Isaac Newton was elected to a fellowship at the Trinity College as early as 1667, but his appointment as a professor did not come until 1671. You chose--Hugo Rune
No mention of a college, but here's another possible date: "In London, Newton assumed the role of patriarch of English science. In 1703 he was elected President of the Royal Society. Four years earlier, the French Académie des Sciences (Academy of Sciences) had named him one of eight foreign associates. In 1705 Queen Anne knighted him, the first occasion on which a scientist was so honoured. Newton ruled the Royal Society magisterially."--Yin( http://www.britannica.com/bcom/eb/ar...5657+5,00.html ) - J. S. Bach's Cathedral:
Bach was first appointed organist at the Arnstadt Church in 1703 at the age of 18, but it can hardly be said to be "his" cathedral. In 1723 he was appointed head of Church Music in Leipzig... He never had a "Cathedral" of his own--Hugo Rune - Statue of Liberty:
The Statue of Liberty was opened in 1886--Hugo Rune
"The statue, mounted on its pedestal, was dedicated by President Grover Cleveland on Oct. 28, 1886."--Yin( http://www.britannica.com/bcom/eb/ar...9269+1,00.html ) - Women's Suffrage:
Women's Suffrage was first achieved in 1893 in New Zealand--Hugo Rune
Women landowners in Massachusetts had the right to vote as early as 1691, though they lost it with the American Revolution (how ironic). But there are basically three dates to choose from: 1848, 1869, or 1919. The modern movement for female suffrage began with the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848. Wyoming gave women the right to vote in 1869 and in 1919 Congress ratified the 19th amendment--Stryfe - Hoover Dam:
The Hoover Dam was finished 1936--Hugo Rune
